Chapter 1813 The Watchdog Won't Let In

Chapter 1813 The Watchdog Won't Let In

Sick people should stay in sunny rooms to recuperate, but the old man was instead in a dark and damp room, the furthest from Zhang Ran's room. Even so, there were people guarding him everywhere, outside the door and in the corridor.

Luo Laoliu escorted Zhang Ran to the corridor and told her that the old man had passed away in the last room at the end of the corridor.

Zhang Ran stood quietly in place, watching Luo Laoliu's figure disappear from sight before stepping through the long corridor.

Every few steps, there was a bodyguard standing guard. They kept their eyes straight ahead and their expressions were serious. They would only lower their heads slightly when Zhang Ran passed by.

Zhang Ran felt as if she had walked into a solemn funeral, and these people were keeping vigil.

At the end of the corridor, in the last room, two guards stood at the door, blocking Zhang Ran's way before she could take another step.

“Miss, for the old master’s safety, please allow us to search him,” one of the bodyguards suddenly explained.

"Search me?" Zhang Ran looked at the bodyguard who spoke with a dangerous glint in her eyes.

"I wasn't the one searching her," the bodyguard explained. He would call a maid over; naturally, he wouldn't dare touch the young lady's body.

Zhang Ran squinted and questioned, "Huo Yan summoned me, yet you dare disobey his orders?"

"Please don't make things difficult for us." The two bodyguards at the door lowered their heads, but still stubbornly stretched out their arms to block the door from letting her in.

Looking at their dead state, what else could Zhang Ran not understand?

Where was the concern for the old man's safety? It was clearly Luo Laoliu using his name to try and steal her weapons. After all, taking her things in front of her would cause a falling out.

With truth in hand, I have the world at my command.

Having lost his weapon, Zhang Ran was like a fish on a chopping board; how could he compromise? He turned and left.

She was forced to come by Luo Laoliu in the first place, so who would care to see a dying old man one last time? It was just an excuse for Luo Laoliu to imprison her.

Seeing Zhang Ran disappear down the corridor without looking back, the two bodyguards exchanged a glance. One of them quickly took out his phone and made a call, saying in a trembling voice, "Miss Zhang did not want to be searched and has already left."

"Next time, let her go straight in; there's no need to search her again."

"Yes."

The courtyard was just outside the corridor. Zhang Ran was about to take a walk when she saw Luo Laoliu, who should have left, talking on the phone. He hung up when he saw her and quickly walked over. "Why didn't you go in?"

Zhang Ran stared intently at his eyes and brows, a half-smile playing on her lips: "The watchdogs won't let me in, saying they need to search me for the old man's safety. Why should I let them search me? Do they think they're police officers?" Even if they were police officers, they couldn't search her without proper authorization.

Luo Laoliu smiled and explained, "The old man made countless enemies throughout his life. Many people infiltrated the manor to kill him. Without anyone searching him or protecting him, he would have gone to see the King of Hell long ago. It's not that I'm deliberately targeting you. I'm personally sending you in." Although the old man was placed under house arrest, it was a way of saving him in a roundabout way.

"Keep pretending, keep pretending. Who can outdo you?" Zhang Ran thought to herself, but outwardly forgave him magnanimously. She followed behind Luo Laoliu, staring at his tall, broad back, itching to make a move.

If she were to shoot now, and he was wearing a bulletproof vest... Her gaze gradually moved upwards to his vulnerable neck and the back of his head. At such close range, she could definitely blow his head off with a single shot. But if she killed him now, Old Deng and his gang would be most pleased, and she would probably die with him.

Luo Laoliu was incredibly perceptive. He sensed the undisguised murderous intent in the eyes of the person behind him, but he never turned around, though his hand unconsciously clenched tighter.
