Chapter 4583 The Day of Brightest Light (Forty-Two)
"What the hell?! What happened to my hand?!"
Upon hearing the exclamation, Deathstroke confirmed that his good agent had returned. He was utterly speechless. What was clearly a one-man show had been turned into a murder mystery. Anyone who didn't know better would have thought someone had actually shot him.
Even so, Deathstroke still took out the medicine, handed it to Schiller, and said, "It seems your plan has completely failed. He said he'd find someone, but he didn't help you. He shot himself..."
“He found him.” Schiller said, taking a deep breath and bandaging the wound on his hand. “I just think it was such a waste. I should have known better than to let him come.”
“Trading intelligence for the sake of sacrificing your health won’t work,” Deathstroke said. “I knew that from day one.”
“Ha, you’re wrong about that,” Schiller sneered. “He doesn’t exchange intelligence by harming his health. He enjoys harming his health.”
"You say he found it, but did he tell you?"
Schiller nodded and said, "I have a general idea of where we're going. Let's go."
Unsurprisingly, in Cairo's largest red-light district, a brothel disguised as a hotel and illegal drug den had special rooms reserved for important figures. They would leave their "lovers" there. Haivin had three rooms there, but only one was their target.
As the car pulled up, the commotion was already audible. Deathstroke frowned and said, "Those terrorists wouldn't happen to have time to go and solicit a prostitute, would they?"
They could also smell the burning in the air, even though this place was quite far from the airport. The airport fire couldn't possibly have spread this far. The only possibility was that this place was also on fire.
Fires are relatively common in these drier areas. But they actually occur more frequently in slums. In places like red-light districts, fire patrols are more frequent, because it would be bad if a fire broke out involving important figures. It would be strange if such a place even caught fire.
The two got out of the car and swaggered inside without anyone stopping them, as many people had gone to the fire scene. They followed the smell of burning and arrived at the edge of the fire.
Schiller's expression darkened, and Deathstroke looked at him, saying, "This isn't the place, is it?"
Schiller nodded. The hotel in front of him was almost completely burned to a shell. The faint crying sounds around him suggested that few people had died. But if everyone inside had escaped, finding his target would be much more difficult.
Schiller spotted a woman in the crowd. He walked over, handed her some money, and said, “I need to find a strong woman. Possibly Asian. At least 40 years old…”
“We don’t have anyone like that here,” the woman said warily.
"After all this has happened, haven't you realized what kind of trouble you've gotten yourself into? She's the one who told me I'm in trouble, but you're the one who didn't."
The other woman looked furious, but she noticed the gun in Schiller's arms. It was definitely a big one. She couldn't afford to lose another building. So she bit her lower lip and said, "That strange lady only has one guest. I think you know who he is."
"A strange lady?"
"She's not a prostitute at all, and she's not under our control. That place is more like a secret rendezvous point for her. There are many people like that here. But..."
"But what?"
“She’s the most special one. She protected this place. You know how those people see us. Very few people would do that. She was also the first to notify the others when the fire broke out.”
Do you know where she went?
“I don’t know the exact location. But I think she might be guessing that the fire is related to the airport burning incident. After all, both were arson…”
"Okay, I understand, thank you, ma'am."
Schiller returned to Deathstroke's side, and Deathstroke looked at him and said, "Well? Did you find it?"
"To the airport."
They finally reached the airport. And this time, they arrived just in time. Screams echoed through the airport. Deathstroke immediately drew his weapon and said, "You stay behind me... and don't fiddle with your tank cannon."
Schiller didn't argue; his old pistol was out of bullets. He'd have to use a revolver to fire again, and the guy was using his dominant hand. His hand certainly couldn't withstand the recoil now.
Fortunately, Deathstroke was simply too ferocious. He didn't even use his greatsword; instead, he wielded two two-handed swords and spun wildly like the blades of a meat grinder. Any enemy that even showed their face was instantly shredded to pieces.
They entered the terminal first. There weren't many people there, but the screams weren't coming from there; they were coming from the departure hall at the back. As they walked there, several terrorists rushed out, but before they could fire, they were hacked to pieces by Deathstroke.
They charged forward, and then, in the area where the terrorists were most concentrated, they spotted a figure. It was a woman, and she was unarmed, fighting off more than a dozen men single-handedly. Before they could even see her movements, these men were already down.
"hiss……"
"What's wrong?" Schiller asked.
You know my name, right?
"The world's number one mercenary."
"That's right, they're mercenaries, not assassins. Guess why?"
"why?"
“This is the world’s number one assassin,” Deathstroke said, gesturing with his chin to the figure in front of him. “Ms. Shiva. One of the few people I’d rather not run into. It’s worth mentioning that I was once on her list of potential fathers for her child.”
"What???"
"She wanted to find a man to have a child with, and then raise that child to be the most skilled assassin. She had her eye on me. But I didn't agree."
"why?"
Don't you think this is a bit too much?
"I'm not asking why you didn't agree, I'm asking why she fell for you."
"Can you please have a little bit of manners?"
While the two were talking, all the terrorists had been taken down. And those eyes turned towards them. Schiller immediately realized something was wrong and pulled Deathstroke aside, saying, "Let's go!"
Unfortunately, they couldn't leave. The woman appeared behind Deathstroke like a ghost. Deathstroke raised his sword to block, but was sent flying. He shouted, "Wait, Sandra! We mean no harm..."
But his opponent didn't stop, throwing another uppercut. Deathstroke parried again, kicking at his opponent's wrist, but was instead knocked down. Schiller didn't hesitate, drawing his revolver and firing a shot. Taking advantage of his opponent's shock, Deathstroke quickly got up from the ground.
"Get out of here!!!" Schiller shouted.
Deathstroke dared not linger any longer. He used his grappling hook to grab the second-floor railing, climbed up, and then threw the hook to Schiller. But Schiller had no time to use it, as Madam Shiva had already closed in.
Schiller first ducked to dodge her hook punch, then fired another shot. Both of their eardrums were damaged simultaneously. But after firing so many shots, Schiller had at least developed some resistance, while his opponent clearly hadn't expected the thing to make such a commotion and was less prepared, so she was stunned for a longer time than Schiller.
Taking advantage of the opportunity, Schiller used his grappling hook to grab the second-floor railing and escape. He and Deathstroke ran towards the airport exit. At this point, cover was irrelevant; whoever ran the slowest was in the front.
Thankfully, Ms. Shiva didn't chase after them. The two exchanged a glance, and Deathstroke sighed, "If I had known she was here, I wouldn't have come. I can't beat her."
To his surprise, Schiller didn't refute him. He nodded and said, "I had a feeling when I saw the message. He wouldn't have run away if it wasn't a big problem."
"You know there's big trouble ahead, yet you still..."
Deathstroke's voice trailed off mid-sentence. He knew he'd come across as rather cowardly, so he could only say, "That woman's too strong. Even Batman couldn't beat her, let alone me. Why don't you call Wonder Woman..."
"Have her come in person?"
"Let her give up. Why should women make things difficult for each other? Whoever brought her here, give him the mural."
Schiller didn't comment on Deathstroke's attitude. In fact, Ms. Shiva's appearance was indeed the worst news. This woman was known as the world's number one assassin and also the most powerful fighter.
Deathstroke is powerful enough, right? He could even hold his own against the Teen Titans. But all Robins are instantly killed by Shiva. Her record is astonishing: one slap from Robin, one slap from Deathstroke, and the Bat-Family is like a series of powerful attacks. This Bat-Family includes Batman. Even Batman couldn't beat her.
However, Ms. Shiva is a person who values honor highly. When Batman suffered a back injury at the hands of Bane, she was the one who helped him rehabilitate. Of course, back injuries are probably no longer a thing in the current main universe. It's even uncertain whether she and Batman ever fought. But this doesn't negate her strength.
Logically, such a person should be approachable, since Schiller only wanted the murals. However, Ms. Siva's condition was clearly abnormal. This blocked even the last avenue.
Schiller pursed his lips and said, "She might have been hired by Haivin, but she's already out of control. He's probably having a headache over the current situation. We need to find him."
“He’s probably hiding in some safe house right now,” Deathstroke said.
"Then let's go find Hessinag. This guy has been cooperating with Haivin for so long, he must have something on him."
"Then the question is, where is Hessinaga?" Deathstroke thought for a moment and said, "He should have run away when he saw you were still alive. He wouldn't be so stupid as to stay until now, would he?"
“Hayvin won’t let him get away. People like that are opportunists. He’s probably thinking that if he can’t deal with me, he’ll hand over the murals and Hessinag to me. He won’t let him go.”
“The museum,” Schiller said, “the two of them must have had a fight after we left. Haivin might choose to trap Hessinnag underground in the museum. Let’s go check it out.”
Deathstroke nodded; he agreed with Schiller's deduction. Once Haivin realized Schiller's power, he would surely leave himself an escape route. The pledge of loyalty was Hessinag, who had betrayed Schiller. In that case, Haivin wouldn't let him leave the museum, because once he was let out, he would definitely run away.
The two returned to the museum. It was now closed and no longer open to the public, saving them the trouble. They made their way down to the underground level, arriving at the room where they had previously met Haivin and Hessinag. But Hessinag wasn't there.
Schiller walked over and found some marks on the ground. He crouched down and wiped the floor with his hand. Deathstroke walked over and saw a small pool of blood in the spot.
“Someone broke in and took him away,” Schiller said. “Hersinnag fired a shot and hit the other man, but they still took him away.”
“It couldn’t be Ms. Shiva,” Deathstroke said. “If the gun could hit her, we wouldn’t be having this headache.”
“This proves that it wasn’t Haivin who took him away. Then who could it be?” Schiller frowned. “Why do I feel like someone beat us to it?”
