Chapter 4298 Body of Steel (Part 3)

A figure broke free from the brightly lit dance floor, leaned against the wall, and loosened his tie. He took a few steps forward, but then sat down against the wall like a complete drunkard, as if he intended to spend the night in a ridiculous and decadent manner.

"Hey, are you okay?" a female voice said above him. He said, "Let's not sit here, let's go over there."

She helped him up and led him to the sofa next to her. In the dim light above the seat, she sized up the man.

A few strands of his jet-black hair fell loosely, highlighting his high-set eyes and nose, long, straight eyelashes like arrows, and tightly pursed, pale lips.

“He won’t have blue eyes,” the woman thought. “That would be too gaudy. Either brown or gray would be better.”

"Are you alright? You're extremely drunk. Give me your address, and I'll take you home."

The man shook his head, but still pulled a business card from his suit pocket. The woman glanced at it, raised an eyebrow, and said, "A British man, huh? Good heavens, how did you find this place? Okay, which hotel are you staying at? Probably the Luther Hotel, right?"

The other person seemed to nod. The woman sighed, took out her phone and called a car. She helped him out of the bar, got him into the car, and after thinking for a moment, dismissed the driver and drove herself.

"What brings you here? Are you here on business?"

"No, I'm here to find something."

"Looking for something? What are you looking for?"

"The royal family lost an antique, apparently it was brought to America. They sent me here to look for it."

"That's bizarre, it sounds like a movie." The woman paused, then said, "Royal antiques, they must be quite valuable, right?"

"Very expensive...Egyptian...snake...emerald..."

"Okay, this sounds like something really valuable. Did you find it?"

"I have no clue. But there are lots of rich people here, I'm sure I can find something. I'll go to Gotham tomorrow."

The woman paused again, then said, "Gotham? You think that thing is in Gotham?"

“Bruce Wayne can afford it. I have to go see it.”

The woman's eyes darted around, then she said, "Alright, I wish you good luck finding it. We're here. Let me have the waiter help you inside."

"Thank you... thank you, ma'am. Could you please give me... your business card? I'd like to thank you in person..."

"No need for a business card. Perhaps we'll meet again if fate allows." With that, she left.

Schiller stood on the steps leading to the hotel lobby. He slowly straightened up, showing no signs of drunkenness. Beneath the shadows of a few stray hairs, the corners of his mouth were slightly upturned.

While waiting at a traffic light, the woman driving home took out her phone and started searching, muttering to herself, "Egypt...snake...emerald...the Serpent of Phrygia? The museum's prized possession? These British really know how to collect good stuff..."

She zoomed in on a picture and exclaimed in astonishment, "Such a huge emerald..."

"No news of thefts, looks like they're still covering it up... East Coast, huh?"

"Hey? It's me. Where are you guys drinking again? You've almost spent all that money you made on that job for the Valat Group, haven't you? Of course, I know corporate espionage isn't easy. If the pay wasn't high, would I have taken it? This time is different. I heard something interesting. If it works out, it'll be a huge windfall. Want to hear about it?"

“The Egyptian artifact… has been found, it’s here.” Diana reached down from the bookshelf, took a book, and stood in front of it to look through it. As soon as she saw the long list of contents, she put the book back.

“Why don’t those greedy British just take the whole of Egypt back with them? Hundreds of thousands of artifacts, how long would it take me to find them?” Diana sighed. “These are such famous artifacts, there should be information about them online, I should check online.”

She went to the table next to her, turned on her computer, and started searching. She quickly found many web pages, including introductions from academic websites, tourist reviews, and even some strange legends. However, most of the attention was focused on the emerald—after all, it looked valuable.

“No wonder the royal family was in such a hurry,” Diana said, shaking her head. “This thing would be a national treasure in any country, and they just replaced it with a fake. They really have a big heart…”

"If someone would steal this, it probably wasn't for their own collection, so it must be for resale. But how many people can afford it? I know all the wealthy people on the East Coast... It can't be Bruce Wayne, can it?"

"Never mind, let's go check out Luther Manor tonight. If it's not in Luther Manor's vault, then it must be at Wayne Manor."

Diana stood up, grabbed the lasso, and jumped out of the window into the darkness of the night.

"You mean, Britain's national treasure is missing, and you just happened to hear about it from a drunkard who came looking for it?" asked a hooded black man sitting in front of a computer.

"I know it sounds ridiculous, but we haven't had any orders lately, so we might as well try something. Wasn't that diamond we got last time a lucky find?"

The other person nodded, looked at the screen again, and said, "So where should we look first? Wayne Group?"

"No, that drunkard said he's going to Gotham to check it out."

"Shouldn't we get there first?"

"This means we don't need to search for him ourselves; we can just keep an eye on him. If he finds him, we'll take him. Let's start by looking for places he hasn't searched yet—go check out the Luther Group."

As night deepened, Lex Luthor remained in the laboratory. Dressed in a full-body radiation suit and wearing a mask, he picked up a green gem, glanced at the readings on the instruments, and angrily threw it down.

"That damn liar! I knew he was a liar all along!"

Lex roared and stormed out of the lab, taking off his protective suit, crumpling it into a ball, and throwing it aside. He then vigorously rubbed his head.

He rushed out of the room, taking out his phone to send a message as he went, but just then, the alarm went off. He froze for a moment, then ran towards his office.

He opened the door and saw an unusual light flashing on the computer screen. He rushed over, cursing, "Damn it! Damn it! Someone dared to hack into the Luther Corporation?!"

"Damn it, he's spotted us! Get out of here!" In the dimly lit basement, the woman said anxiously, "We still have to cooperate with him later, we can't afford to let this guy hold a grudge. Run!"

"How did he find out?" the hooded man said. "Did this guy upgrade the security system again? He must have nothing better to do!"

"Did they escape?"

"Don't worry, he didn't leave any trace, so he won't be able to find us. But just to be on the safe side, you should try to probe him tomorrow."

"If he finds out, wouldn't we be walking into a trap?"

"It's alright, we have something on him, he won't dare to do anything to you."

Luther slammed his fist on the keyboard and roared, "That damn bastard got away!"

He took a deep breath, about to continue using his computer to track down this audacious bastard, when his phone beeped again. He checked—the vault at Luther Manor had been attacked. He quickly activated the security system on his phone, cursing under his breath.

Diana sighed as she heard the alarm sound and untied the Lasso of Truth from the vault door. She knew it wouldn't be that simple; if it were that easy to enter Luther Manor's vault, the Luther family would have been emptied long ago.

She ran out quickly, and the security measures were no match for the demigod. Her figure soon disappeared into the night, leaving Lex Luthor alone in his office, furious and powerless.

He was angry for a while, but gradually calmed down.

“This is no coincidence…” he said in a low voice, “They broke into the Luther Corporation, and they tried to open my vault… Could it be…”

After a pause, he opened his phone, accessed his email, and found a picture of a business card among a large pile of emails. He then dialed the number on the card.

"Hey? Where are you right now? Come over here right now, I need to talk to you... Let's not beat around the bush, what the hell is that thing you gave me?! Don't tell me you don't know!"

"Fine... You'd better give me an explanation by tomorrow, or else you'll regret it..."

Lex slammed the phone down, threw it onto the table beside him, and turned to look out the floor-to-ceiling window, his mind replaying the data. The readings for the supposedly radioactive emerald were completely normal. Was it really because of its immense value that so many people coveted it?

"No, that's not right... There must be something special about this thing. But what is it?"

A series of dark thoughts flashed through Lex's mind. That damned liar wasn't leaving the Luther Corporation's doors until he explained himself.

As he was thinking this, he suddenly saw a streak of light flash across the metropolis's sky. Immediately afterward, the entire city was briefly illuminated, and countless people were jolted awake from their dreams.

Clark sat up in bed and looked out at the sky above the apartment—a huge spaceship had appeared above Metropolis.

Clark squinted, rolled off the bed, and in the blink of an eye, he was dressed in Superman's suit. He flew into the sky and flew directly to the spaceship without flinching.

As if to vent all his anger and sorrow, Clark took a deep breath and said in a low voice, "Then let me see what you're capable of."

With that, he flicked his cloak, charged forward, and slammed his fist into the side of the massive spaceship. With a deafening boom, the spaceship exploded into a cloud of fireworks above Metropolis, the immense sound waves and vibrations causing countless people's eardrums to bleed.

Everyone was stunned by this astonishing turn of events. Before the debris from the spaceship could even hit the ground, it was all destroyed by Superman, who was moving at incredible speed.

Then, he slowly descended and landed in front of the people hiding on the last remaining large pieces of wreckage of the spaceship.

Driven by some unknown rage, his eyes were as cold as a polar storm.

“You shouldn’t have come here. Are you going to leave on your own, or should I throw you out?”

The update time is a cycle
