Chapter 4197 A Guide to Wandering the Galaxy (Part 4)
Peter opened the app. The first thing he saw was a disclaimer that was so long no Spider-Man would have the patience to read, and of course he didn't bother to read it either. He just scrolled to the bottom and clicked "agree."
The software has limited functionality, including a built-in navigation system, an electronic guide for reference, and a personal interface. Peter played around with the navigation system first, but he discovered it was essentially a modified version of the spaceship's navigation system, easier to view but slightly less accurate. For example, it could only currently display its orbit within the solar system, and the trajectory was somewhat delayed and not very precise.
Then there was the guidebook, but before he could even look at it closely, Miles nudged his arm with his elbow and said, "Hey, why do we have to go?"
"You don't want to go?"
"Of course not, I'm just a little curious. Why not just let drones handle things like surveying and data collection?"
Peter sighed and said, "Didn't you already go to community college? Didn't they teach you about the structure of the universe?"
“You probably have some misconceptions about community colleges. I just learned how to bake a cake with premixed flour yesterday.”
“Alright. The Milky Way is so vast that even if we send out all of humanity’s spaceships and drones, we still can’t explore every point. So this time we need to send everyone, even the students in the magic academy who haven’t graduated yet, and the newcomers who have only recently awakened their superpowers.”
“I see,” Miles said. “Why not look for help in the multiverse?”
"So, are all these Spider-Men from our universe?"
"No, I mean, why is it only Spider-Man?"
"Because we're the only ones with relatively free time. Other people in the universe have a ton of things to do. What if we call the entire Avengers and things go wrong in New York?"
“Oh, right,” Miles nodded. “Although we can stay in space, we can’t fly. Without a spaceship, how are we supposed to get there?”
“They should be able to figure something out,” Peter said, glancing at Schiller ahead. “Humanity is lacking everything right now: people, money, equipment. It will take even Dr. Schiller some effort to fill those gaps one by one.”
"I don't think even if he manages to get a spaceship, it's impossible for one person to have one. And that wouldn't be safe enough. We'd probably still need to form a team. How about we team up?"
"That's possible, but two people probably won't be enough. Who else would you like to bring?"
"I don't know either. You know more Spider-Men than I do. I only found out a couple of days ago that there's another version of me from another universe who went to university and was even a top student."
Peter laughed and said, "Once you get your community college diploma, you might be able to apply to a university. I remember New York University had similar aid opportunities."
“No,” Miles shook his head and said, “I don’t want to study math, physics, or mechanical engineering. I’m going to go to baking school. I want to open my own dessert shop in New York.”
“That’s not bad,” Peter said, raising an eyebrow. “But you have to think it through. Rent in New York is very expensive. If you can’t sell it, you’ll lose money.”
They had just gotten to this point in their conversation when Schiller on the stage said, "You have three days to prepare. Form teams of 3 to 5 people each. Three days later, a batch of small spaceships will be delivered to Neptune Port."
"A small spaceship? Did we build it?"
"I don't think so. Aren't they building large-scale mining equipment recently?"
"Could it have been bought?"
“I think it’s possible, but where would the money come from? And I heard that Earth is quite remote, yet they’re willing to send it over.”
The people below were chattering about where this batch of small spaceships had come from. Steve gave Stark a look, and Stark shook his head at him. Steve then understood—if Stark didn't know, then this batch of spaceships was probably still air.
However, acquiring a batch of small spaceships in three days was hardly a warm-up for Schiller. Don't think he didn't know that those four scoundrels had gone to soak in the hot springs under the World Tree again. A single soak in those hot springs could destroy at least a thousand years of construction achievements of the three great empires, and the mass of the universe would be reduced by several points.
"Also, there might be some helpers from other universes. They'll probably arrive tomorrow or the day after. Don't rush to form a team; wait and see. Perhaps there will be more outstanding team members. However, I must remind you that the team must include a captain and a first mate. Although most spaceships have autopilot capabilities, you'd better use this time to learn some basic piloting skills..."
Most people didn't hear the second half of what he said; everyone was focused on the first half. Miles lowered his voice and said, "See, I told you so. We really need to look for other universes."
“But I don’t think it could be the Avengers. They had a huge argument during the last debriefing meeting,” Peter said, shaking his head.
"Do you think it might be from the next world?"
“Really?” Peter said in surprise. “We just finished a battle.”
"But don't forget, they raved about the opposing team during the post-game review," Miles said, clicking his tongue. "That's just how people are; sometimes they admire their opponents more than their teammates. Do you think Batman might come?"
“I’m afraid it’s difficult. The situation in Gotham is even worse; they don’t have that much time. I just hope it’s not that Constantine.” Peter sighed. Thinking about the last multiverse war, Batman had planned everything, only to have it all ruined by this guy, and he felt it was all for nothing.
“Actually, I don’t want to work with Batman either. I always feel like they’re too serious,” Miles said, resting his chin on his hand. “When he stands there, I don’t even dare to say a word. The team atmosphere must not be very good.”
“It’s not like we have to team up with Batman. Can’t we just find someone else?” Peter said to Miles. “I doubt anyone in the next world knows how to fly a spaceship. If we don’t learn properly, we might get torn apart.”
“Then you go learn. I’m an idiot. I’m going home to bake cakes.” Miles looked down at the patterns on the table.
"Alright, that's all for now." Schiller closed the memo and said, "If you have any questions, be sure to message me. Don't try to do it yourself. Go back and review the guide carefully, don't embarrass yourself in front of your friends in the other universe..."
The meeting ended quickly, and people began to leave in twos and threes. Just as Peter and Miles were stepping out, a shout came from behind them:
"Peter Parker! Wait for me!"
Peter turned his head and saw Polaris rushing over.
"What's wrong, Lorna?"
"Have you found teammates yet?" Polaris asked.
"Not yet, I plan to team up with Miles."
"Can you take one with me?"
Peter asked, somewhat surprised, "You're not on the mutants' team?"
"Don't even mention it. Iceman and Shockwave both want to be on my team. It's not good for me to refuse either of them, but if I put them on the same team, they'll definitely fight. I'm thinking I might as well find my own team, then it won't be so troublesome."
“You really need to sort out your love life,” Peter couldn’t help but say. “At this rate, who are you going to invite to your wedding?”
"I know, I will." Polaris sounded dismissive, but she still tried to sell herself. She said, "I know neither of you can fly a spaceship. It's not something you can learn in a day or two. Besides, you don't even know the model of the new spaceship, so you have no way of learning."
"So you understand?"
"I can't pilot a spaceship, but I can carry it and run." Polaris said seriously, seemingly unaware of how astonishing she was. She said, "I did it like this in the Andromeda Galaxy. You don't need to deal with those complicated control panels. Just use the magnetic field to support the spaceship and run. Believe me, it flies really fast."
"Of course, I wouldn't question the speed at which a magnetic field ability user can pilot a spaceship. But have you considered safety?"
"That's why I came to find you! You have spider-sense to warn me, so we can avoid dangerous celestial bodies in time. It's a perfect match!"
"You really don't need any more perfect matches, ma'am. However, forming a team is something we can consider. Are you free tonight? Come to my base and we can chat?"
"Okay, where is your base?"
I'll send you the address later.
Just then, Schiller walked past them, and Peter quickly called out to him, "Hey, Doctor."
"What's wrong, Peter?"
"You bought an alien spaceship? Are they even willing to deliver it?"
"Of course, don't look at things with old eyes. The Milky Way is about to become the capital, and those merchants will be scrambling to come here. Whoever develops a mature trade route first will make a fortune. But the Nine Kingdoms are not so easy to come by. If they could exchange a batch of spaceships for a travel permit, they would fight tooth and nail for it."
Peter immediately understood where these spaceships came from—they must have been sponsored by some conscientious businessmen with a strong sense of responsibility towards the universe. However, he still asked, "Are there enough? This time we're going to travel to every corner of the galaxy."
"I only ordered 3000, but that should be enough. These are the latest Bird-class Type 32 small spaceships from the Leta civilization. They sold very well as soon as they were launched, with sales exceeding 100 million across the universe. We only got our turn because a customer cancelled their order. But just to be on the safe side, we will still send people to escort them throughout the entire process."
"That's good. I'll go back and check on this spaceship to see if there's any pilot training or anything like that. I'm off now, Doctor, bye-bye."
Schiller waved at him. Just then, his phone rang. He opened it and saw a message from Magneto:
"The goods have been received. They are expected to arrive tomorrow."
"I understand, thank you for your hard work."
Magneto put away his phone and looked at the small spaceships being packed into boxes on the dock. His face was expressionless, but anyone who knew him well would have noticed that he was quite satisfied.
In contrast, the shipyard owner was sweating profusely. When the humans said they would send someone to escort him the whole way, he hadn't realized the seriousness of the situation. But when he felt the signature magnetic storm and saw that familiar helmet, he almost collapsed to the ground.
It's just a few thousand small spaceships, is it really that big of a deal?
However, he quickly realized that there weren't many pirates in the universe who dared to steal from his Leta civilization, and mutants were the only ones. If Magneto became the guardian, then the shipment would be completely safe.
Moreover, they hadn't been paid for these spaceships in the first place, so even if Magneto came to steal them, they wouldn't lose anything. Thinking this through, the shipyard owner was somewhat relieved.
However, in order to please this scoundrel, he still took the initiative to give away a lot of freebies, such as hundreds of automatically deploying hangars, gravity recovery devices, cryogenic chambers, and so on.
As those mountain-sized containers were loaded onto massive, almost endless cargo ships and slowly rose into the air, the first trade route to the Milky Way was gradually being extended.
