Chapter 4015 MU: The Superbody Incident (Ninety-Five)
The two flew along the surface of the shield. With no restrictions outside, they moved incredibly fast. Strange even opened a portal, quickly transporting them to the other side of the Apocalypse Realm.
“Where is this?” Strange asked.
“It’s kind of an entrance and exit,” Schiller said. “The Green Lantern fleet came out from here before. I guess they’ll send some ships to patrol the area later.”
"Because of Asgard?"
“That’s right. After suffering a defeat, Batman will only be more cautious. Asgard’s surprise attack was too deadly. Apokolips’ shield might not be able to withstand the Bifrost at full power. The best way is to send troops to patrol directly. Even if it can only hold off Asgard for a while, it can greatly reduce the effectiveness of the blitzkrieg.”
Strange nodded. Playing away from home was already a disadvantage, and with their campaign already unsuccessful, Batman had to adjust his strategy and couldn't afford to be reckless. The immediate priority was to prevent the opponent from capitalizing on their advantage, but Asgard was adept at expanding their lead. To prevent the opponent from snowballing their advantage, the only option was to tighten their defense.
"It looks like they don't have much of a chance of winning," Strange said.
"That's not necessarily true. Batman is very good at seizing opportunities. Besides, we look very brave, but we have very little experience in dealing with defeats. Once the other side seizes an opportunity and inflicts a wave of losses, it's hard to say how quickly we can recover."
Strange also harbored a hidden worry. Although their teamwork seemed perfect on the surface, it was only because they were benefiting from Asgard's advantage. Asgard itself was a complete combat system, naturally giving them an advantage against the enemy's mixed forces.
But what if the enemy's integrated forces attack our mixed forces? Just look at Doctor Strange's situation, wouldn't his army collapse like a house of cards?
"Hopefully Batman doesn't seize the opportunity," Strange sighed.
The two arrived there and hid on the far side of the planet. Schiller said, "We had a debriefing meeting over there, and Batman will definitely have one too. However, many of them were injured and need to recover first. They should be almost fully recovered by now, and Batman should call a meeting with everyone. Constantine will definitely be on the list. If we want to get to the main planet without teleporting, there's only one way—hitch a ride."
"You mean Constantine's coming here to freeload on the patrol fleet? That's such a waste of time!" Strange raised an eyebrow in surprise. "By the time those fleets return from their patrol, the meeting will be over."
“If it weren’t for that, Constantine probably wouldn’t have come,” Schiller scoffed. “Do you think he would want to attend a Batman meeting?”
"Oh, right. This has nothing to do with him in the first place. If he goes and they assign him some combat missions, he'll have to use magic again. I guess he doesn't want to take on this mess."
“He will take action, but he will definitely do it his own way. Batman knows this too, and this training isn't about training him. So even if he knows that he hitched a ride to deliberately delay, he won't do anything to him.”
"In fact, if the goal was to train the troops, they actually benefited this time. Because it exposed problems within the team, and after the defeat, everyone is motivated and will definitely work together towards a common goal. Unlike us..."
Strange didn't finish his sentence, but Schiller knew what he meant. Those who lose only think about how to win, while those who win only think about taking credit.
Although Asgard contributed the most this time and had little interest in the human alliance, Doctor Strange, who was the most interested, was too embarrassed to openly step forward due to the heavy losses he suffered, but the undercurrents never stopped.
Schiller and Strange didn't have to wait long, only about half a day, before they saw a somewhat familiar spaceship approaching Apokolips. It was a small, silver spaceship, coming from the opposite direction from Schiller and his companions.
"Wait, isn't that the Guardians of the Galaxy?" Strange said in surprise. "So this is the lost Guardians of the Galaxy. Which universe are they from? How dare they be so bold?"
“They wouldn’t be like them if they weren’t bold,” Schiller said, still hiding in the shadows of the planet, peering over there. “I suspect they’re planning a decapitation strike.”
"A decapitation strike?!" Strange's voice nearly cracked. "Whose head are we going to take? Apokolips'? Or Darkseid's?"
“Of course it’s Batman’s,” Schiller said with a hint of helplessness. “With Star-Lord’s brain, all he’d think of is that Batman is just an ordinary person who can be killed with a single shot. So of course he’d want to just charge straight into Batman’s group and go on a killing spree.”
Strange slapped his forehead: "Even if we don't talk about Darkseid, there are so many Superman and Wonder Woman. They'll surround Batman, how could they give the assassin a chance?"
“Have you forgotten that there are also good fighters in Batman?” Schiller scoffed. “The person who came up with this idea must have never been hit by the president’s iron fist.”
"What do we do now?" Strange said with some worry. "It seems they're determined to go in. Won't we be caught on the spot?"
“Don’t worry, Star-Lord may not be the brightest, but the Guardians of the Galaxy have been around in space for so many years, they still have basic eyesight. They can’t be unaware of how powerful this behemoth is. They wouldn’t be here if they didn’t have a way to infiltrate.”
"They can break Apokolips's shield?!" Strange looked incredulous.
"As the saying goes, cats have their ways, and mice have theirs. They've been roaming the universe committing crimes for so many years without getting caught, and they've even managed to amass a considerable fortune. It's not just about talking. Just watch how they do it."
The two continued to wait, and the spaceship did not rush to approach, but remained there. Until another figure appeared directly in front of the planet where Schiller and his companions were.
The other person had black hair and black eyes, wore a black trench coat, carried a leather suitcase, was tall and slender, had a cold face, and had an unlit cigarette dangling from his mouth. He turned his head and looked around as if he were waiting for a bus.
The bus never arrived; instead, with a whoosh, several figures appeared behind him in an instant. The moment they turned around, a laser gun was pressed against his forehead.
“It’s a big fish,” the leader said cheerfully, wearing a space combat suit. “John Constantine, right? I’ve seen you in the combat data, the famous Hellblazer.”
The other person, carrying a box, raised his hands, took two steps back, and said, "Let's talk this out. Don't brandish knives and guns. Who are you?"
On the far side of the planet, Schiller, having already heard the commotion, brought Strange to a nearby location. Strange cast invisibility and silence spells on the two of them. He nudged Schiller with his elbow and asked, "Why isn't this Constantine blond?"
“Things are getting interesting,” Schiller said with a smile. “This is exactly the more serious Constantine.”
Schiller recognized that the Constantine being cornered by the Guardians of the Galaxy was the same Constantine from the movies, played by Keanu Reeves. His most memorable scenes include, but are not limited to, the flaming Gatling gun and giving Satan the middle finger.
While Keanu Reeves was incredibly handsome at his peak, and the film boasted impressive special effects, it didn't quite capture the essence of the comics. The Constantine in the movie wasn't as villainous as portrayed; some of his inappropriate behavior stemmed from resentment over late-stage lung cancer and a strong desire to go to heaven, making him less detached and cynical than his comic book counterpart.
In contrast, the exorcism aspect is portrayed better. Constantine in the film is an exorcist who is highly skilled in exorcism, possesses great inspiration and magic, and has a very tough attitude, showing no mercy in confronting various demons.
"The Guardians of the Galaxy have met their match," Schiller said with a hint of schadenfreude, his desire to see the drama unfold on his face.
Strange was actually a little curious. He used to look down on Constantine; after all, the guy was just too awful. No matter how strong his professional skills were, they couldn't make up for his huge flaws in character. Even the Constantine from Bruce's universe didn't sit well with Strange, let alone the others.
However, Strange's first impression of Constantine was quite good. Unlike other Constantines with their reckless and unruly demeanor, he gave Strange a feeling more like his teacher, the Ancient One, the most powerful Sorcerer Supreme.
"Guardians of the Galaxy, ever heard of them?" Rocket asked, walking up with a gun in his hand.
Constantine didn't speak, but merely slightly raised his eyelids and took the cigarette from his mouth. Seeing this, Schiller quickly pulled Strange away—this was the prelude to a fight.
Sure enough, the next second, a flaming whip cracked and sent Rocket Raccoon flying. Then came another sweeping attack; everyone except Gamora, who managed a somersault in mid-air and landed safely, was sent flying and crashed heavily to the ground.
He threw away his cigarette butt, stomped his foot, and the surrounding ground turned into a black swamp. Countless ghostly hands reached out from beneath the ground and firmly grabbed the Guardians of the Galaxy.
Constantine stepped forward, tilted his head, and with a flick of his wrist, threw the cigarette butt he was holding onto Star-Lord's chest. With a whoosh, it ignited into a raging fire, burning Star-Lord so badly he screamed.
He took out another cigarette, lit it, lowered his head to take a puff, exhaled the smoke, and then clicked his tongue and said:
"I've never heard of any Guardians of the Galaxy, but there are quite a few of you. If you take them back to Batman, I might not have to go to that damn meeting."
"Wait!" Rocket, unable to move his limbs as he was firmly gripped by the ghostly hand, shouted, "You think you can work for Batman like this?!"
"Where did you see that I was risking my life, little kitty?" Constantine snorted, exhaling a puff of smoke as he held a cigarette between his fingers. "Anyone who didn't know better would think we were fighting a life-or-death battle."
"You damn bastard..."
Before Star-Lord could finish speaking, Ghost Hand grabbed his limbs and yanked him out of place, causing him to scream in pain. Gamora couldn't help but turn around and yell at him, "Didn't you say Constantine was easy to bully?!"
"What we encountered before was indeed..."
“Hey buddy,” Strange said, dispelling his invisibility spell and stepping out—still looking like Constantine—“I don’t want to go to the meeting either. Everyone gets a share.”
His response was a flaming whip.
"Hey, wait a minute!" Strange almost got hit and had to quickly back away to avoid it. "We're on the same side, why are you hitting me?!"
Constantine remained silent, relentlessly chasing and beating Strange. Then he suddenly remembered he was still wearing Constantine's appearance, and blond Constantines were generally disliked. It was perfectly normal for him to be beaten up by this more respectable counterpart.
"Stop!" Strange yelled at him. "I'm warning you one last time! Stop it!"
Constantine seemed not to hear at all. Finding the whip useless, he grabbed at the air and a flaming hunting rifle appeared in his hand.
Bang! A flaming bullet flew towards Strange.
The bullets left ripples on the golden magic circle, and Strange's hands drew smooth arcs in the air. "Keep your mind clear and still, and your soul will be forever secure!"
