Chapter 3959 MU Superbody Major Event (39)
Chapter 3959 MU: The Superbody Incident (Thirty-Nine)
The main universe's Iron Man, now without his armor, sat down by the office window. Schiller sat opposite him, gazing at the Long Island skyline.
In the Ant-Man kidnapping case, Iron Man and Doctor Strange are suspects, Hydra is a suspect, and even extraterrestrial travelers like Schiller are suspects—but one very important figure has been overlooked: Ultron.
Ultron is gone, but not dead. Moreover, it's perfectly normal for a being born from electronic life to leave behind hundreds or even thousands of backups in its home planet. He thus lurks in the shadows, ready to deliver a fatal blow at any moment.
If we can't confirm that Ultron is the culprit just by looking at the methods used, then considering the ultimate beneficiary makes it almost certain.
Who benefits the most from Pym's kidnapping?
It certainly couldn't be Iron Man or Doctor Strange. They'd better have Pym under their control to maintain the upper hand in initial negotiations; even if they don't use him in negotiations, they can't let this culprit run rampant. Keeping him under control is the most logical choice.
It wouldn't be Hydra either. Hydra might need Pym's help, perhaps to improve their equipment or to develop new weapons to turn the tide for the Manfred family. But these gains are far too small to be worthwhile compared to the bigger picture of the multiverse, and they don't have the capability to do so.
Ultron fears Pym the most, because Pym is his creator and nearly destroyed him not long ago through his underlying code. Their hatred is irreconcilable. If Ultron can be defeated, his security level will increase by at least a third.
Moreover, as the mastermind behind the scenes who controls the whole situation, he is very familiar with both Batman's and Iron Man's plans, and he is also very clear about the contradictions between the two sides.
Taking down Pym would not only sow discord within the Avengers universe of the main Marvel Cinematic Universe, but also exacerbate the conflict between the Marvel and DC universes—a win-win situation. There's no reason for him not to do it.
For a being that appears and disappears without a trace, there's no need for him to personally intervene. The Avengers have so many enemies; any one of them would be enough to give them a headache. The risk he takes is practically zero; it's a sure win.
The fact that "Jarvis might be in trouble" almost became the final straw for Iron Man in the main universe. However, perhaps due to years of suffering from anxiety, Iron Man's mental resilience has been elevated to a very high level, and he has not yet collapsed because of this.
They waited a short while, and Doctor Strange arrived. He didn't use the portal; instead, he flew in directly through the window. Schiller turned and subtly observed him. He noticed that, perhaps due to the game's design, these people from the main universe seemed far more powerful than those from other universes, even though they were still quite young, their imposing presence was already formidable.
"What's going on?" Doctor Strange asked.
"Jarvis might be malfunctioning; my suit is unwearable. Take me back to Stark Tower; I need to perform a full software overhaul."
Doctor Strange's brows furrowed deeply. He couldn't understand how things had turned out this way, and then he heard Iron Man from the main universe say, "You need to find Whiplash. He's not dead yet, and he's been manipulated by Ultron to kidnap Ant-Man. We have to rescue him."
Doctor Strange was even more puzzled. He had no idea how the matter had gotten involved with an unknown criminal, but seeing the intimidatingly serious expression on Iron Man's face, he ultimately decided to do as he was told.
Then he turned his head and saw Schiller. Compared to Iron Man from the main universe, Doctor Strange from the main universe clearly knew him better, and was therefore more terrified, to the point of despair.
"What is he doing here?" Doctor Strange asked.
“Thank goodness he’s here,” said the main universe Iron Man. “Schiller is just doing it out of interest, Batman isn’t. If it were Batman who came knocking, we’d be in trouble…”
Before he could finish speaking, Bruce walked out of the lounge. The moment they saw those blue eyes, both Iron Man and Doctor Strange from the main universe took a step back.
Batman's true appearance might fool others, but it couldn't fool these two. One had a scanner in his suit, and the other possessed magic; of course they knew what Bruce Wayne looked like.
“What’s with those expressions?” Bruce couldn’t help but ask. “Do I look like I’m going to eat someone?”
"So you don't know how? Then why do your assistants always disappear?" Doctor Strange asked.
Bruce opened his mouth, momentarily at a loss for words, then paused before saying, "Would you believe me if I said I'm not Batman?"
The two looked at each other, then simultaneously gave each other a "Do you think we're idiots?" look.
“You still don’t understand Batman at all,” Bruce said, shaking his head. “Batman will never show his face in front of you until he’s absolutely certain he can defeat you completely.”
Just then, Doctor Strange gave Iron Man from the main universe a wink. They had clearly thought of the same thing—if they didn't have leverage, they would create it; kidnapping Batman wasn't out of the question.
“I advise you not to even think about kidnapping him,” Schiller said. “That would be asking for trouble.”
"Why? Even if he's not Batman, he's at least Bruce Wayne from some universe, isn't he?"
“Because nobody’s going to come to his rescue,” Schiller said frankly. “Honestly, he’s not very popular with Batman. Even if you kidnap him, Batman won’t care about you; he might even give you a thumbs up.”
"why?"
"Because you helped them eliminate the most unstable element in the group, and left that element in their own group, greatly weakening their own strength."
"Him?" The two looked at Bruce together. Bruce spread his hands, feigning innocence.
“I must say this is slander,” Bruce shook his head vigorously. “I am by no means the most unstable element in any group. You know, only cattle and sheep herd together, while wild beasts always roam alone. Geniuses are always alone, aren’t they?”
That's something Iron Man and Doctor Strange would definitely agree with. If the speaker didn't have that face, it might make some sense; but with that damn blue eye, it just sounds like a con artist's bluff. Iron Man and Doctor Strange aren't going to fall for it.
"I was just about to ask you, what are you two doing here?" Doctor Strange said.
“Of course, it’s to investigate Ultron,” Schiller continued. “Let’s not beat around the bush. Give me the information on Ultron and I’ll leave. Otherwise, I can take some local specialties back with me, like the two of you.”
“So you’re one of them,” Doctor Strange said, narrowing his eyes. “Why should we give you information about Ultron? It would speed up Batman’s fight against him, and what we need is time.”
"If you don't give it to me, I'll go find it myself, but if I cause any trouble, that's none of my business. You know you can't stop me."
Iron Man and Doctor Strange exchanged another glance. Clearly, this was a dilemma: giving the data to Schiller might bring Batman here faster; but if they didn't, and Schiller wreaked havoc on their base, they'd be even less able to fight Batman.
“You have to help us rescue Ant-Man,” the main universe’s Iron Man said. “This isn’t a deal; it’s that if you want the most complete data, only he has it. We can’t use those storage devices that use Pym Particles.”
Schiller frowned slightly. Now things were back to square one; he still had to find a way to rescue Dr. Pym. But if Ultron had kidnapped him, he would still have to deal with Ultron, and the Ultron in this universe might not be so easy to deal with.
In just a moment, Schiller had a plan. After all, this is Marvel; a mere creature with radio waves can't cause much trouble.
He turned and left the office, Bruce following behind him. Schiller had no choice but to stop and turn around, pointing in the direction of Iron Man and Doctor Strange.
Bruce stared at him. Schiller pointed in that direction again. Bruce gave him a "you're kidding me" look.
“Sorry, I don’t want any destabilizing factors,” Schiller said. “Go with them.”
"What kind of destabilizing factor am I? Besides, you asked me to come and help you, and now you want to abandon me and run away?"
"Okay, let me put it another way: I'm going to find Professor X, who can see right through you, and Magneto, whom you absolutely can't beat no matter what your trump cards are. There might also be a Phoenix nearby, capable of destroying the universe if it explodes, and the Scarlet Witch, whose words can become law. Are you still going?"
"No, thank you. I still prefer the team atmosphere of the Avengers." Bruce decisively ran behind Iron Man and Doctor Strange.
Schiller called the Punisher out of the lounge. When the Punisher saw the two men outside, he simply nodded.
Iron Man and Doctor Strange were clearly too busy to pay attention to him—the two of them didn't keep an eye on him for a second, and Bruce ran straight into the suit of armor that Iron Man had taken off, and actually started it up!
"What are you doing!" the main universe's Iron Man yelled first. "Get down here right now, this thing is dangerous! Grab him! Stephen!"
Doctor Strange hurriedly reached out to try and control it with magic, but Bruce, who seemed to have learned how to operate a mecha from somewhere, flew incredibly fast regardless of his flight posture or whether he could use weapons. He sprinted towards the window and disappeared in a flash.
Doctor Strange could at least fly after him, but Iron Man, without his armor, was frantic. He wanted to use the controller to call his armor over from Stark Tower, but he didn't dare because he thought Jarvis might be in trouble. So he hurriedly ran downstairs.
Schiller and the Punisher got back into the car. Schiller turned on the navigation and headed towards the X-Men's base. Just as they arrived at the base, they ran into members of the Brotherhood of Mutants.
A group of people, dressed in complete black, walked with a brisk pace, causing all the cars around them to make way, except for Schiller's. It wasn't that Schiller didn't want to move, but there was no room behind him, and he couldn't back out. And coincidentally, his car was blocking the path that the Brotherhood of Mutants were sure to take.
The silver-haired old man in the helmet at the head of the group merely glanced in their direction, and the car suddenly flew into the air. A split second before being crushed and launched, Schiller and the Punisher opened the car doors and jumped out almost simultaneously.
Schiller jumped onto the roof of the car below, while the Punisher landed on the ground beside him, rolled around, and emerged unharmed.
The first thing Schiller did after getting out of the car was not to curse or raise his gun, but to stand on the roof, turn around, take off his hat, and reveal his face.
Magneto froze the moment he saw those grey eyes.
