Chapter 3840 The Nameless Bat (Part 10)
The Amazon River, one of the world's greatest natural wonders. As wild and ferocious as it is, so too is its magnificence. It has created the world's largest rainforest ecosystem, home to trillions of amazing creatures, yet strangely devoid of human presence.
The Amazon River basin lacks the conditions necessary for human habitation, but that doesn't mean it's devoid of human activity. On the edge of the Amazon rainforest, in areas closer to civilization, there are scattered tribes that have collectively formed a nation—the Amazonian Tribal Federation.
Even at the edge of the rainforest, there is still so much awe and wonder for people who live in concrete jungles year-round. As a result, tens of millions of tourists travel here by boat every year, and the vast majority of people in the Amazon serve tourists and participate in the tourism industry.
Getting into the Amazon is no easy feat. First, you need to fly to the airport in the nearest country, then transfer to a ship, then a small seaplane, and finally another ship to reach the Amazon's only port.
However, if one were to use an unconventional method—the one Batman did—they would have to cross the Amazon rainforest from the other side. Because the natural conditions are so harsh, the Amazon is undefended along its borders, giving people like Batman an opportunity.
Schiller and Batman walked through dense bushes, followed a stream downhill, and jumped off a rock face about 20 meters high. Through a crevice at the bottom of the rock face, Schiller saw the very extravagantly designed Batmobile.
That's the one Batman Arkham built at the magic school, using the same materials as Stark's armor—vibranium and molten steel alloy—and some nanomaterials to reduce its weight. Even more unique is its engine, which requires magical power to operate.
Batman from Arkham hands Schiller a brand new, uncharged magic core and says, "Fill it up."
Schiller looked at him, and he looked at Schiller; they stared at each other for a moment. After a while, Schiller spoke up: "Do you need me to get you a calculator?"
“I know it wasn’t you who got beaten up at the school hospital that day,” Arkham Batman said.
Schiller scoffed inwardly. He knew most Batmen could see the difference between him and Mephisto, and Arkham Batman was no exception. He just hadn't called him out then, intending to use it to negotiate now.
“Add another 200 points,” Schiller said. Before Arkham Batman could even try to negotiate a lower price, he added, “I guarantee my gas is better than Tony’s.”
Arkham Batman weighed his options, nodded, and said, "Deal."
Schiller couldn't help but curse inwardly, "These damn rich bastards, how come they're so rich?!"
Schiller filled the magic core with moonlight energy, and Arkham Batman inserted it into the engine. The two then got into the car.
"Paradise Island possesses special protective magic, making it impossible for us to enter using conventional methods."
"You mean the unconventional way is to just crash a car in there?" Schiller couldn't help but turn to look at Arkham Batman. He said, "That might make it impossible for you to handle your relationship with Wonder Woman afterwards."
Do you think there's still room for reconciliation between us?
“You’re making this sound far too easy,” Schiller sighed. “You were teammates for a while, and you knew she liked you.”
"I would prefer her to like the magic defense network."
Schiller didn't bother to persuade him any further, but simply looked out the car window at the lush rainforest and said, "That's one of the reasons I don't like dealing with Batman—there's not a trace of idealistic romance in him."
The Batmobile quickly took flight, speeding through the Amazon rainforest until it spotted a striking ray of light within the dense canopy. Where the light touched the ground, a small, unremarkable island came into view.
The Batmobile stopped a few hundred meters from the island, the roar of its engine growing louder and louder until Arkham Batman slammed on the gas. With a loud crash, the Batmobile slammed into an invisible barrier.
"Oh!"
Visible cracks appeared. The Batmobile reversed slightly, but Arkham Batman didn't press the accelerator again. Schiller heard a commotion below. Soon, a woman in a purple robe, whose face bore a resemblance to Wonder Woman, appeared on the ground.
Arkham Batman stepped out of the Batmobile and said to her through the barrier, "Hello, Your Majesty."
Arkham Batman and Schiller were ushered in, in a less than friendly manner. But considering what Arkham Batman had just done, the Queen could be considered quite benevolent.
Upon entering the Queen's palace on Paradise Island, the woman could no longer maintain her composure. She stared intently at Arkham Batman's face and demanded, "Where is Diana?"
“I assure you, she is well,” Arkham Batman said. “She cares deeply for her sisters and mother, and she loves her homeland. She doesn’t want any conflict or bloodshed here. Your Majesty, do you think she will get her wish?”
This blatant threat was even getting to her nerves. She felt she should get used to Arkham Batman's no-nonsense style sooner rather than later.
The Queen gripped her scepter tightly and said, "The Amazons have never opposed you. We only want to live peacefully and quietly. Why do you drag us into those dirty political struggles?"
“You are mistaken, Your Majesty. I have not involved you in any political struggles. You are not worthy.”
Schiller tilted his head slightly to one side. Batman really knows how to turn asking for favors into robbery. It has to be said, America has welcomed the most suitable president for it.
The Queen frowned deeply, looking at Arkham Batman with eyes that resembled Wonder Woman's. Arkham Batman said, "I'm going to Mount Olympus."
The Queen lowered her eyes, gently shook her head, and said, "I can't help you. Otherwise, Diana will blame me."
Does she really like Mount Olympus?
“She likes you very much.” The Queen took two steps forward, looked up at Batman seriously, and said, “She doesn’t want you to get hurt. So whatever you want to do to the gods, give up your naive ideas.”
“You are truly naive, Your Majesty. You have lived a life of ease here for far too long; this island and those chaotic gods are all you have. But Diana was not like that. She fought in wars and became a member of the Justice League. Your daughter is more capable than you, with a longer-term vision. Most importantly, she has a much better eye for men than you.”
Schiller couldn't help but want to give Arkham Batman a good whack. What a load of rubbish! He brought up the very thing he shouldn't have, and now he's extinguishing all the fires burning beneath the surface. Typical Batman.
The Queen was clearly speechless. A serious discussion on this topic would inevitably involve Zeus's character. But once that was brought up, she had no reason to stop Batman from causing trouble on Mount Olympus. She was even afraid of following Batman into trouble herself.
"In short, I cannot give you the key," the Queen said, shaking her head. "And don't even think about using force. Even if you sink the entire island, the key will not appear."
"You think I'm here because of my relationship with Diana, hoping you'll understand me and give me the key? But no, Your Majesty, that's not what I'm after."
"What is that?" The Queen seemed to have made up her mind, and she walked back to sit on her throne.
"Naturally, all fifty states of the Union will be unified, the shadow government will be rendered ineffective, and there will be no separation of powers after me. What will you and your compatriots do when I, the most powerful president in history, am assassinated in the Amazon?"
The queen jumped to her feet, glared at him, and said, "Despicable!"
"This is dirty politics, Queen. Give me the key." Arkham Batman issued his ultimatum.
The Queen gripped her scepter tightly, and after a long while, she slumped onto her throne, saying dejectedly, "You can't treat Amazon like this. We've never betrayed our partners..."
"The United States is not your partner. It wasn't before me, and it won't be after me. The fact that I'm here in person and using my security to kidnap you is the most lenient measure I've taken out of respect for Diana. Otherwise, you would be meeting the leader of the Amazonian national independence uprising right now."
The Queen seemed somewhat desperate. More than the inescapable predicament offered by Batman in Arkham, she seemed desperate that her daughter would fall for such a man. Diana had excellent taste in men, almost too good.
“Tell me what you are going to do,” the Queen said.
“I don’t know what gave the gods such confidence that they could forever wield precious powers that don’t belong to them, completely detached from Earth, lording it over as they did in ancient times. I just want to tell them that the romantic mythological era recorded in human books is over. It’s time to pay the price for the wasted years of their youth,” said Batman Arkham.
This was a presidential-style speech, but the Queen understood his meaning. She stared intently into Arkham Batman's eyes and said, "Do you know what you're saying?"
"Of course I know. Your Majesty, are you truly resigned to this?"
"what?"
"On Earth, Paradise Island is special enough. You possess special powers bestowed by the God-King, capable of protecting your siblings from worldly troubles. But compared to Hera, who holds immense power, is that truly enough?"
"What do you want to say?"
“If Olympus hadn’t offered you scraps of food peeked through the fingers of the gods, how could you, as a true queen, allow a stranger like me to spout such nonsense? How could the Amazons be threatened by me? How could you endure such humiliation?”
The Queen pursed her lips tightly and said, "Do you think I haven't tried? But they are gods. Do you know what gods are?"
Arkham Batman shook his head. Just as the Queen was about to explain the power of the gods to him, she heard Arkham Batman say:
"They are gods because I don't want to be a god yet."
“Absurd!” The Queen stood up again. She strode to the opposite side of Batman from Arkham, her robes billowing and her long hair flying.
“You arrogant human!” she said. “All humans who have tried to challenge the gods are dead. Do you really think you can climb Mount Olympus under the siege of the gods?!”
“Then why don’t you let me prove it to you, Your Majesty?” Arkham Batman said calmly. “If I’m going to my death, you should be happy about it.”
"It seems you're determined to do this," the Queen sighed. "The key is in my hands; if you want it, come and take it."
“Excuse me, ma’am,” Schiller said, “do you really have the key?”
“Of course. It’s in the scepter in my hand.” The Queen turned to look at the scepter in her hand, but suddenly realized that the scepter she was holding was not the original one, but had turned into a silver staff with a crescent moon at the top.
What Schiller held in her hand was her original scepter.
Arkham Batman never talks nonsense, and Schiller knew that very well. So when he started his long-winded monologue to the Queen, Schiller knew what he was about to do.
