Chapter 1139 Turning Point
Chapter 1139 Turning Point
“Miss, do you want to avenge Mr. Chen?” Wu Mingqiang said calmly as he stepped forward. “Then come on.”
Gui'er looked at him with a calm, even slightly smiling gaze, just like he always looked at her, a gentle gaze tinged with a hint of longing. She simply couldn't bring herself to do it.
Wu Mingqiang suddenly grabbed Gui'er's hand holding the gun, gently twisted it, and then pulled it. It looked smooth and effortless, but Gui'er felt as if she were being gripped by an eagle's claws, unable to break free.
Wu Mingqiang pulled again, and Gui'er fell backward into Wu Mingqiang's arms.
Gui'er was stunned by this sudden change, her face turned red, and she tried to break free.
“Miss, you used to be able to subdue bandits and bad guys because you were quick, accurate and ruthless. Now you've softened your heart, so you see how easily I subdued you. You must never do this again.”
Gui'er looked at him in confusion. She felt that she wanted to break free, but it seemed difficult. However, Wu Mingqiang seemed to be afraid of hurting her and did not use much force.
"What exactly do you want?"
“I know that if you knew these things, you definitely wouldn’t trust me anymore.” Wu Mingqiang’s eyes revealed helplessness and painful sorrow.
"But I really didn't kill Mr. Chen. I only found out about this when I went to confront Liu Lanfang after finding evidence that she had harmed you. I was scared. Liu Lanfang and Liu Tieqiang are backed by the Japanese. There are rumors everywhere that Japan is about to attack Hong Kong. They are now acting with impunity. The Hong Kong British government has no choice but to compromise. No matter how many people I know, I can't confront them head-on. I just want to protect you. I know you will look down on me, but as long as you are safe and sound, nothing else matters."
Gui'er was very conflicted, unsure whether to believe him or not.
"Let her go."
A loud shout came from afar. Gui'er looked up and saw A-Cheng rushing towards her with a gun in hand.
"Let go of the young lady, do you hear me?"
Wu Mingqiang said coldly, "Acheng, what are you trying to do? Are you trying to rebel?"
"You are the one who rebelled."
Acheng held the gun, his finger on the trigger, the veins on his forehead throbbing: "I've known for a long time that something's wrong with you! Miss treats you like family, but you've been seeing people like Liu Lanfang behind her back. And today you even brought her to this desolate place by yourself. What are you up to?"
Wu Mingqiang frowned and pulled Gui'er behind him protectively: "What I do with Miss is none of your business! Put the gun down!"
"I won't let you go!" Acheng took two steps forward, the gun barrel steadily pointed at Wu Mingqiang. "That day you went to the Grand World Hotel, I saw you following behind the hostess! She said she was going to meet a classmate, but I asked the people at the hotel, and there was no student gathering at all! I did see you and Liu Lanfang coming downstairs one after the other, can you say you're not up to something?"
Gui'er was startled. That day, she didn't want Acheng to know about this, so she specifically asked him to park the car some distance away from the hotel. Unexpectedly, he noticed that something was wrong with her expression and even got out of the car to follow her.
"And this!" Acheng suddenly pulled a photo out of his pocket. It was the same photo that Gui'er had tucked in the book, taken by Detective Feng, showing Liu Lanfang, Zhao Tianhu, and Liu Tiecheng. "Dingxiang found it when she was tidying up her desk. This man is the leader of the attack on the young lady that day! If you weren't colluding with them, how could you still be involved with Liu Lanfang?"
Wu Mingqiang's face was as dark as if it were about to rain. After a long while, he said, "...There's a reason for that."
"I don't care what your reasons are!" A-Cheng's voice was choked with sobs. "Before the Second Young Master left, he told me to keep a close eye on Miss and never let her suffer any injustice! But you, under the guise of managing the business, are secretly colluding with traitors, and today you even tried to lay a hand on Miss. How can I tolerate you!"
"I didn't!" Wu Mingqiang cried out, his voice trembling. "I associate with Liu Lanfang to protect Gui'er. That girl Liu Lanfang is crazy. She told me that Chen Zhongyu was killed by someone hired by her father, and if I don't listen to her, she'll also send someone to deal with Gui'er! That day at the hotel, I deliberately went along with her, trying to find out more details! If I wanted to harm Miss, why would I wait until today?"
"Who would believe your nonsense!" A-Cheng gritted his teeth and said, "I saw it clearly from a distance just now. The young lady pointed a gun at you, and you subdued her in a flash. What else could it be but trying to silence her?"
The two were on the verge of exchanging blows, the sea breeze whipping sand against their faces with a stinging pain. Gui'er stood in the middle, watching the tense situation unfold, her mind a jumbled mess.
Wu Mingqiang's words and Acheng's doubts pulled at her like two opposing forces. She looked at Wu Mingqiang; the anxiety in his eyes seemed genuine. Then she looked at Acheng; although his hand holding the gun was trembling, his eyes were unusually firm—a resolute determination to protect his master.
"Acheng, put the gun down." Gui'er suddenly spoke, her voice not loud, but carrying an undeniable force, "If he wanted to harm me, he wouldn't have said so much to me just now."
Acheng was stunned: "Miss, you..."
“I know you’re doing this for my own good.” Gui’er walked up to him and gently pressed down on his hand holding the gun. “We’ve known each other for many years. Let’s get things sorted out first, put the gun away, and we can talk about it when we get back.”
Looking at Gui'er's calm eyes and then at Wu Mingqiang's tense profile, Acheng hesitated for a long time before finally slowly releasing the trigger and tucking the gun back into his waistband. He still stared at Wu Mingqiang warily: "If you dare to show the slightest disrespect to Miss, I will risk my life to make you pay."
Wu Mingqiang didn't speak, but looked deeply at Gui'er, his eyes filled with gratitude, grievance, and some other complex emotions that were hard to describe: "Gui'er, are you willing to believe me now?"
Gui'er pondered for a moment: "So, it really was Liu Tiecheng who harmed Brother Chen, right? Then I want revenge, are you willing to help me?"
Wu Mingqiang was stunned, and said with difficulty, "In the current situation, it has already taken a lot of effort for me to protect you. That Liu Lanfang asks me to drug you and use some tricks every day. I can hardly stand it anymore in order to deal with her and pretend to be nice to her."
“If we don’t kill them now, what chance do we have when the Japanese come in? You can be a high-ranking official’s son-in-law with dignity, but what about me and Miss?” Acheng said sarcastically from the side.
Wu Mingqiang was not angry. He nodded thoughtfully and agreed with Acheng's statement: "It was my oversight. I should have opened a branch in Malaya back then. I was thinking too far ahead and was afraid that I would not be able to manage it from a distance. Now, I'm stuck in Hong Kong and Macau."
