Chapter 1307 The Elementary School Student Who Made the College Student Feel Embarrassed
A black Crown sedan slowly came to a stop in front of the dormitory building of Jingzhou Normal University. Song Yunping sat in the passenger seat, her fingers unconsciously twisting the hem of her clothes, showing no intention of unfastening her seatbelt.
Qin Hao turned his head and looked at her slightly drooping eyelashes casting a small shadow on her fair cheek, a knowing smile playing on his lips.
Song Yunping's ears burned, and she turned her face away from Qin Hao's burning gaze, whispering, "Don't... look at me like that."
Qin Hao glanced at his watch and said regretfully, "It's getting late, you should go back now. I'll pick you up again tomorrow at noon."
"How long are you staying this time?" Song Yunping's eyes were filled with surprise, and her voice unconsciously rose a few decibels.
"About a week." Qin Hao adjusted the air conditioner vents. "The cannery in Jinling County has completed its upgrade and renovation. County Chief Xu personally sent me a letter inviting me to attend the ceremony for the rollout of their first production line that fully meets international standards. I have to give them that courtesy."
Upon hearing this, Song Yunping smiled and said, "That's perfect. Xiaohui and I will be on summer vacation in a couple of days, so we can go back together."
As she was saying this, she finally unbuckled her seatbelt and was about to push open the door to get out of the car when Qin Hao called her back.
"Wait a minute." Qin Hao got out of the car, went around to the trunk, and took out several beautifully wrapped gift boxes: "I'm bringing some small gifts for your roommates."
Looking at the obviously expensive gift boxes, Song Yunping hesitated and said, "Isn't this too valuable?"
Qin Hao didn't give her a chance to refuse. He glanced at the balcony of the dormitory building and a mischievous smile appeared on his lips: "Look up there."
Song Yunping looked up in the direction he indicated—on the balcony of their dormitory on the third floor, several heads were huddled together, peering down! Who else could they be but her roommates! Lin Fangfang even waved at her, her face full of amusement.
"..." Song Yunping's cheeks immediately burned. She was reluctant to leave just now, but now she wished she could find a crack in the ground to crawl into.
Qin Hao chuckled softly, "Good things should be shared. Taking this will shut them up and stop them from bombarding you with questions."
Seeing Song Yunping's still hesitant expression, he took a step closer and added in a voice that only the two of them could hear, "Don't worry, I've saved the portion that was actually for you. I'll give it to you when we get back."
Song Yunping then accepted the gifts, but only picked out a few items: "One for each of you is enough. You don't earn money easily, so don't buy so many expensive things in the future."
Qin Hao chuckled inwardly; this girl really knew how to manage money. He nodded, "Okay, whatever you say."
Song Yunping ran up to the third floor, panting, and as soon as she turned into the corridor, she was surrounded by her roommates who had been "ambushing" her at the door!
"Wow! Pingping! Confess and you'll be treated leniently; resist and you'll be punished severely!"
"Tell me honestly, who is this Comrade Lei? What is your relationship with him?"
"Let me see what good things the legendary 'Hong Kong big boss' has given Pingping!" Li Mei led the commotion.
Amidst the playful banter, the bolder Lin Fangfang waved to Qin Hao, who was standing downstairs: "Comrade Lei, thank you for the gift!"
Song Yunping was both ashamed and shocked. She lunged forward and covered Lin Fangfang's still-laughing mouth with one hand, while dragging her into the dormitory with the other: "You're going to die! Don't shout!"
Lin Fangfang's roommates were also amused by her boldness and burst into laughter.
After a while of laughter and commotion, the dormitory gradually quieted down. Everyone received their own gift box.
Li Mei and the others opened their own boxes, and saw a line of gold-stamped English letters printed on the exquisite packaging boxes: COVERGIRL.
"Wow, Pingping, what's in this box? The packaging is so fancy!" Li Mei carefully unwrapped the ribbon from her box, admiring the gorgeous wrapping paper.
Liu Yan, who usually didn't talk much in the dormitory, suddenly spoke up quietly: "Of course."
She pointed to the most eye-catching line of English: "It translates to 'Cover Girl,' the most popular cosmetics brand in America. I'd only ever seen it in my aunt's fashion magazine. I never thought I'd actually see it today!"
The dormitory fell silent for a moment after these words were spoken, then erupted in even greater astonishment.
"My God! American designer brands must be expensive, right? Pingping, this...this is way too expensive!"
"Yes, Pingping! How could we possibly accept this..."
The roommates suddenly felt the cosmetics in their hands become heavy.
Upon hearing this, Song Yunping felt a pang of regret. If she had known these things were so expensive, she wouldn't have given one to each person. Couldn't everyone share them?
Lin Fangfang seemed to read her mind and said with a mischievous smile, "What? Feeling sorry for it? How about I give this one back to you?"
"Who cares!" Song Yunping retorted stubbornly, "Anyway, it wasn't me who gave it to you..."
"Then please thank Comrade Lei for us!" the girls replied in unison, and the dormitory was filled with laughter.
The next day, just as dawn was breaking, Yang Xun arrived outside room 808 of the Jingzhou Hotel. He hadn't slept well all night, and his eyes were adorned with prominent dark circles. He paced back and forth in the corridor, but still didn't dare to knock on the door.
"What if Brother Hao is still sleeping?" Yang Xun muttered to himself, rubbing his hands together and glancing at his watch every now and then. It was only a little past six o'clock, which was indeed too early.
Time passed slowly, and the light streaming through the window at the end of the corridor grew brighter. Yang Xun still stood there like a guardian deity, occasionally wringing his hands anxiously, or staring down at the tips of his gleaming but ill-fitting leather shoes.
His absent-minded behavior and prolonged lingering outside the luxury hotel room finally caught the attention of a highly vigilant floor attendant.
"Sir, do you need any assistance?" The waiter approached and asked in a serious tone.
"We are the people," Yang Xun stammered as he explained.
"Which guest are you looking for? We can help you contact them." The waiter clearly didn't believe him, his hand already on the walkie-talkie.
Just as Yang Xun was at a loss for words, the hotel manager happened to pass by and recognized him: "Mr. Yang? Who are you?"
Yang Xun immediately breathed a sigh of relief.
"It's alright, it's a misunderstanding! This is General Manager Yang! He's a VIP guest of our hotel! He's one of us!" Manager Zhang explained to the young waiter while quickly bowing and apologizing to Yang Xun: "General Manager Yang, I'm so sorry! The new guy, Xiao Wang, doesn't recognize you and has offended you. Look at the mess this has made..."
Seeing this, waiter Xiao Wang immediately realized his mistake and quickly bowed his head to apologize: "I'm sorry, Mr. Yang, I'm so sorry! I... I'm new here and don't know you, I'm really sorry!"
Yang Xun just wanted to disappear into the ground; he had no time to be angry. He waved his hand haphazardly, his voice hoarse, "It's nothing...it's nothing..."
Manager Zhang nodded knowingly, dismissed the security guard, and cautiously asked, "Mr. Yang, did you forget your keys? Should I have someone go to the front desk to get them?"
"No, no, no! No need! I didn't forget my keys! I... I'll wait a bit... no need to trouble yourself." He felt his face was so hot it could cook an egg.
Just as things were getting awkwardly tense, a soft "click" was heard, and the door to room 808 was opened from the inside.
Dressed casually and looking refreshed, Qin Hao appeared at the door.
"Brother Hao," he called out timidly.
Qin Hao glanced at him, but didn't scold him. He simply said, "Haven't had breakfast yet? Let's eat together."
Yang Xun felt like he'd been granted a pardon and eagerly followed them to the restaurant. As soon as he sat down, he launched into a self-criticism session: "Brother Hao, I was wrong! Last night I was completely out of my mind, I drank two glasses of 'cat piss' and lost my bearings! I forgot who I was! Leading those guys from the company to cause such a ruckus in such a high-class place, it was utterly embarrassing..."
"I swear, from now on I will keep a low profile and work diligently! I will never again engage in those empty gestures and showy displays! I will never lead the company's employees to neglect their duties! Really! Please believe me one more time!"
He'd talked himself hoarse, but Qin Hao remained expressionless, simply eating his breakfast slowly and deliberately. Finally, Qin Hao put down his chopsticks, wiped his mouth, and asked, "How does it feel to be drunk?"
Yang Xun was stunned for a moment: "Huh?"
"I remember you've been to the hospital twice already because of drinking," Qin Hao said calmly. "I don't usually complain about business dinners. But drinking this much with your own company people, do you think you have too much of a life to live, or are you living too carefree?"
Yang Xun felt utterly ashamed and lowered his head, not daring to look Qin Hao in the eye.
Qin Hao pointed to the untouched noodles in front of Yang Xun: "Eat. Since Director Yang entrusted you to me, it's my responsibility to return you to her intact."
Yang Xun felt a lump in his throat and almost burst into tears.
"From now on, for business drinking occasions, just hire a few assistants who can drink for you," Qin Hao continued. "Haoran International is the client; we don't need to cater to their whims. Just make sure they save face."
Yang Xun felt both ashamed and moved, buried his head in the bowl, and his shoulders trembled.
Qin Hao patted him on the shoulder: "Alright, a grown man shouldn't act like a girl. Go back and rest after breakfast, catch up on some sleep. Don't run around with panda eyes; people might think our company is going bankrupt."
Yang Xun turned away to wipe his tears, then turned back and patted his chest, saying, "Brother Hao, don't worry! I'll definitely work honestly from now on and never hang out with them again."
Qin Hao nodded, paid the bill, and got up to leave. Yang Xun watched his retreating figure, secretly vowing to live up to this trust.
Half an hour later, Qin Hao had picked up Song Yunping and arrived at Jingzhou University.
The two went to Song Yunhui's dormitory but did not see him.
Song Yunhui's roommate explained, "There were no classes this morning, so Song went out early."
Song Yunping's eyes lit up: "I know! The library! Xiaohui is usually not in the classroom or dormitory, he must be in the library, spending the whole day there."
Sure enough, the two found Song Yunhui engrossed in his studies in a corner of the library.
A thick English original book was spread out in front of him, and a notebook filled with dense writing was beside him. He didn't even notice when someone approached.
"Xiao Hui," Song Yunping called softly.
Song Yunhui looked up and, seeing Qin Hao, exclaimed with delight, "Brother Hao! Sister, when did you get back?"
Qin Hao chuckled: "You two siblings speak in exactly the same tone."
Qin Hao originally planned to take Song Yunhui out for lunch, but Song Yunhui insisted on being a good host and invited Qin Hao to eat in the cafeteria.
"Brother Hao rarely comes here, so I must treat you to our cafeteria's signature dish!" Song Yunhui said confidently.
The three of them arrived at the cafeteria. Song Yunhui told Qin Hao and Song Yunping to find a place to sit down, while he excitedly went to the window to get his food. On the way, they ran into a few of their roommates.
"Wow, is Xiao Song not going to live like this anymore? Is he really willing to order so much food at once?" one of his roommates exclaimed dramatically.
Another roommate recognized Song Yunping: "Oh, no wonder you were so generous, you're entertaining your brother-in-law!"
Song Yunping blushed deeply at what he was being said, while Qin Hao remained unfazed.
Just as Song Yunhui was about to explain, his roommates tactfully walked away, leaving him standing there awkwardly with his tray.
Back in his seat, Song Yunhui, oblivious to the situation, said to Song Yunping, "Sister, don't listen to their nonsense. They just like to joke around."
Song Yunping blushed even more at his words, lowered her head, and whispered, "Stop talking, let's eat."
The three chatted and ate, and the atmosphere quickly warmed up again. Song Yunhui also talked about his experience as a counselor at Jingzhou Affiliated Primary School.
"That little girl has a sharp tongue; she silenced the teacher in class." Song Yunhui said indignantly, making excuses for his poor performance that day.
Song Yunping couldn't help but tease, "How could a college student like you be embarrassed by an elementary school student?"
Song Yunhui retorted, "Sister, this little girl isn't just any ordinary elementary school student; she's the most opinionated little girl I've ever met."
Song Yunping disagreed: "Even if someone has their own opinions, they're still just a primary school student."
Qin Hao's heart skipped a beat; this young girl must be Liang Shenchen. The Liang family background was no ordinary one; her maternal grandfather was a wealthy businessman in Hong Kong, her father was a bank president, and many family members held important positions in government agencies.
Just as the three were chatting and laughing, a man in his thirties walked over: "Hey, Little Song, so lively today?"
Song Yunhui put down his chopsticks and introduced, "Brother Hao, Sister, this is Yu Shanqing, our student council member."
Song Yunping greeted Yu Shanqing warmly, while Qin Hao nodded slightly to him.
Yu Shanqing still had a smile on his face: "Then you two enjoy your meal. I have something to attend to, so I'll be leaving now."
After Yu Shanqing left, Qin Hao reminded Song Yunhui, "Be careful when you interact with this Yu Shanqing in the future."
Song Yunhui, unaware of what was going on, asked, "What's wrong?"
"Are you usually very close to him?" Qin Hao asked in return.
Song Yunhui shook his head: "I've only seen him a few times during group activities. He's a year ahead of me, and we don't usually interact much."
Qin Hao nodded: "Since you're not very familiar with each other, why would he come over to greet you when you're here entertaining guests?"
Song Yunhui frowned. Although he was honest, he wasn't stupid and understood immediately: "Brother Hao, you mean he came here because of you?"
"Actually, when you went to get the food, I noticed he was watching us for a long time," Qin Hao said calmly. "It's not that people like that are necessarily bad, just a reminder to be careful, lest you get taken advantage of and end up helping others count the money."
Song Yunhui nodded thoughtfully: "Okay, Brother Hao, I'll be careful."
