Chapter 196: Admission to the Police Academy

Chapter 196: Admission to the Police Academy

Time flies by, and in a blink of an eye, more than a year has passed since Jin Tiesheng went to Cambridge. During this period, everyone's life has changed to varying degrees.

Xie Weihao, in particular, successfully completed all his undergraduate courses in just two years thanks to his diligent study day and night. Such excellent results enabled him to successfully enter Oxford University to continue his law studies.

Meanwhile, Fang Min harbored the same ambition: to complete her undergraduate studies within two years and then pursue further studies in the UK. However, Huadi and JOJO disagreed with their sister's decision. After careful consideration, they decided to persuade Fang Min to change her mind.

In reality, Xie Weihao and Huadi were so eager to complete their university studies in just two years because they had previously wasted considerable time. Now that they had come to their senses, they naturally longed to make up for the lost time.

In contrast, Huadi and JOJO believed Fang Min should take steady steps and lay a solid foundation during her undergraduate studies; only then would she have a more stable future. However, some of these words seemed inappropriate for them to express, so they conveyed them to her through Fang Fang: "Girls don't need to work themselves to death like boys."

In the end, after everyone's earnest persuasion, Fang Min chose to follow the advice and temporarily put aside the idea of being impatient for quick results.

Meanwhile, Wah Di, having also lived up to his hard work, successfully graduated from university within two years and passed the Hong Kong Police Recruitment Examination. Next up for him is 36 weeks of closed-door training as a Probationary Inspector. This new journey, filled with challenges and opportunities, undoubtedly has everyone excited about him...

Soon it was time to enroll, and with JOJO's reluctant eyes, Huadi entered the Hong Kong Police Training Academy.

Hong Kong police recruit for two positions: Trainee Constable and Trainee Inspector. Eligibility for the Trainee Inspector position requires a bachelor's degree or higher, but the exam is more difficult, so many undergraduates apply. Regular officers within the police force can also apply for the Trainee Inspector position, but this requires a certain number of years of service and a recommendation from a supervisor. Both positions require training at the Police Academy.

Trainees undergo 27 weeks of residential training, encompassing subjects at the Hong Kong tertiary level, such as Police Psychology and Police Sociology, as well as courses in Criminal Psychology, Stress Management, Conflict Management, Community Policing, Policing and Ethics, Police and the Media, and Psychology Theory and Application. This enriches their practical knowledge and skills in vocational training. Trainees are also required to obtain professional qualifications in first aid, lifesaving, and firearms handling.

Probationary Inspectors' training is based on the core competencies of Probationary Inspectors, preparing them for their first three years of uniformed service. During their apprenticeship, they will take six unit exams, three physical fitness tests, two internal security and crowd management tests, and one leadership and internship assessment. Upon completion of their apprenticeship, they will take the Level 3 Professional Examination. Those who pass this examination are admitted to the Force as uniformed officers. Upon completion of their three-year probationary period, Probationary Inspectors will take the Level 6 Professional Examination, requiring a full pass in all subjects to be promoted to Inspector. Upon completion of their Inspectorate, promotion to Senior Inspector requires the Level 3 Professional Examination. Cadet Constables undergo 2 weeks of basic training, instilling core competencies in them, preparing them for their first three years of uniformed service. During their apprenticeship, they will take eight biweekly exams, six internship assessments, three physical fitness tests, as well as examinations on weapons handling and formations. They will also take examinations on law and police procedures. Those who pass this examination are admitted to the Force as uniformed officers. After work, you will have to participate in 1 units of study within 3-27 years, each unit lasting 3 days, and one unit studied every 8 months.

On the first day of registration, sunlight filtered through dappled leaves onto the campus path, and a gentle breeze caressed people's faces. However, this seemingly peaceful and beautiful day was uneventful. The entire morning's schedule focused on two basic tasks: dormitory assignment and uniform distribution.

The first task was dormitory assignment. Each dormitory was designed to accommodate sixteen trainees, and the one Huadi was assigned to was exclusively occupied by trainee inspectors. Since Huadi had arrived relatively early, the dormitory was deserted and unusually quiet. He decided to start by packing his clothes and meticulously making his bed. Once he had finished, Huadi slowly sat down on the edge of his bed, his gaze somewhat vacant, his thoughts drifting away as he fell into deep thought.

Time slipped by quietly, and just as Huadi was lost in his thoughts, a strange voice suddenly interrupted his musings. "Hello, my name is Li Hongxing. We'll be training together from now on!" As the voice fell, a well-mannered, bespectacled boy appeared before him. While Huadi was absorbed in his thoughts, Li Hongxing had already entered the dormitory and quickly made his bed. But Huadi, so absorbed in his thoughts, hadn't noticed.

Hearing the greeting, Huadi snapped back to reality, as if waking from a dream. He hurriedly stood up, looked at the other person with a hint of apology, and quickly extended his right hand, smiling and responding, "Hello, my name is Liu Hua, and my friends are used to calling me Huadi. I'm glad to meet you here!"

Li Hongxing shyly extended his right hand and gently shook Huadi's. However, immediately after the handshake, he seemed to lose his composure, his lips moving slightly, but no sound emanated. Huadi, on the other hand, was clearly still lost in the moment, unable to think of a topic to start with. So, the two stood face to face, a faint awkwardness permeating the air between them.

Time seemed to freeze, each second stretching uncontrollably. Just as the awkwardness threatened to drag on, a resounding cry dispelled the gloom like a spring breeze. "Brother Hua!" Huadi whipped his head around, only to see a face he couldn't have been more familiar with—a man with swarthy skin and a charcoal-like complexion. It was none other than He Shangsheng.

Huadi stared at He Shangsheng with wide eyes, his face full of surprise, thinking to himself: How could this guy appear here? You know, today is the training site for trainee inspectors! With full of doubts in his heart, Huadi walked forward quickly and asked impatiently: "Asheng, why are you here for the training of trainee inspectors?"

He Shangsheng shook his head helplessly and said with a wry smile: "You are talking about this. In fact, I am also puzzled! I was doing my job well, but who knew that I was suddenly transferred here." After saying that, he sighed deeply, with a helpless expression on his face.

At this time, Huadi remembered that Li Hongxing was next to him, so he quickly turned around and introduced He Shangsheng to Li Hongxing: "Hongxing, come here, let me introduce you, this is Inspector He Shangsheng. Ah Sheng, this is Li Hongxing." Before he finished speaking, He Shangsheng and Li Hongxing smiled at each other, and extended their hands to shake hands in a friendly manner.

Li Hongxing held He Shangsheng's hand, his doubts growing stronger. He couldn't help but ask curiously, "Aren't we here for the training of trainee inspectors? Logically, it should be all newcomers like us, so why are even inspectors here?"

"Yes, Ah Sheng, please tell us what's going on!" Huadi came forward with a curious look on his face, and couldn't wait to know why He Shangsheng, an inspector, would come to participate in their trainee inspector training course.

He Shangsheng just sighed deeply, shook his head helplessly, and slowly said: "Oh... don't mention it, I'm so unlucky! Brother Hua, you also know my situation. At the beginning, I really didn't want to study, so I resolutely applied for the job of a policeman. Who would have thought that during the police officer training, I was inexplicably selected to become an undercover agent, and as a result, I couldn't even complete the police officer training. You must know what happened afterwards. But one day, Li Wenbin suddenly called me to ask me out for dinner. At the dinner table, he told me that the superiors were very satisfied with my performance, and said that I would most likely be promoted to senior inspector." At this point, He Shangsheng sighed heavily again.

When Huadi heard this, he quickly took over the conversation: "Oh, this is a great thing, Ah Sheng, why are you still sighing?"

He Shangsheng smiled bitterly and waved his hands, replying: "What's good about it! When I chose to be a policeman, I never thought about things like promotion and salary increase. What's more, if I had known that getting a promotion would be so troublesome, I would rather not have this so-called promotion opportunity. Alas..." Before he finished speaking, he sighed again.

At this moment, Li Hongxing, who had been standing silently to the side, couldn't help but mutter, "If I could have such a promotion opportunity, even if it was a hundred times more troublesome, I would be willing to do it!"

"Yes, Asheng, a promotion is a good thing. Why are you afraid of getting into trouble?" Huadi asked with a puzzled look on his face.

He Shangsheng sighed helplessly and slowly said, "Brother Hua, you don't know! My promotion this time was really troublesome. Sir Li told me that he and Sir Jiang had originally strongly recommended me for promotion to Senior Inspector, but unexpectedly someone inexplicably disliked me and found fault with me. That person insisted that my academic qualifications were not high enough and that I had never received the professional training that an inspector should have, so he was extremely determined to oppose my promotion. When I heard Sir Li say this, I felt a sense of loss in my heart, so I casually said to Sir Li, 'It doesn't matter, forget it if I can't get promoted. I already feel very satisfied and happy to be an inspector.' Who knew that as soon as I finished speaking, Sir Li He suddenly raised his hand and slapped me on the head. He glared at me and yelled, "Don't be so useless! Think back to when we were undercover. We persevered through so many hardships and dangers. Now, just because of one person's opposition, you're going to back down?" He then said firmly that he would do everything he could to help me succeed in the promotion, no matter what.

"You're so lucky to have bosses like Li Wenbin and Jiang Dawei!" Huadi couldn't help but sigh. He narrowed his eyes slightly, revealing an envious look.

"That's right. I'm very clear about that." He Shangsheng was the next to speak. He looked at Li Hongxing seriously and said earnestly, "Hongxing, you're already a trainee inspector now, and you'll definitely take on a leadership position in the future. When you become an official, remember to treat your subordinates well. Only by doing so can you avoid being shot in the back."

Hearing this, Li Hongxing's heart tightened, and a puzzled expression crossed his face. After much hesitation, he cautiously asked He Shangsheng, "Sir He, why do officials still get stabbed by their subordinates?"

At this moment, Hua Di, who was standing by, saw this and quickly reached out and punched He Shangsheng lightly on the shoulder. He then smiled and explained to Li Hongxing, "Hongxing, don't take Ah Sheng's words to heart. This guy just likes to joke with you."

However, He Shangsheng shook his head and retorted seriously, "I'm not kidding! Don't you know that there are many corrupt police officers in our Hong Kong police force?"

Li Hongxing's eyes widened in surprise. He quickly waved his hand and replied, "Well... I really don't know much about this. I'm from the mainland, and I'd only heard that this was the first time Hong Kong police were recruiting from the mainland. I also went through rigorous selection and finally succeeded in becoming a trainee inspector. Only two boys and one girl in my group participated in the trainee inspector training, while the other dozen or so people could only participate in the trainee police officer training. Before this, I really knew very little about the situation in Hong Kong."

Huadi understood now. It seemed the Chinese government had done quite a bit during his two years as a student. They'd already begun laying out the Hong Kong police system. But Li Hongxing clearly had a strong background; otherwise, he wouldn't have been able to participate in the trainee inspector training program right after arriving. But now wasn't the time to pry into Li Hongxing's background, so he continued to ask He Shangsheng, "The solution Li Wenbin and Jiang Dawei had proposed for you was to participate in the trainee inspector training program, right?"

"Yes, Brother Hua is still smart." He Shangsheng replied.
