Chapter 16 Sylvie Solaris
Chapter 16 Sylvie Solaris
“Morse.” Sylvie looked up, murmuring sleepily. “Hmm…” But even though she was murmuring my name, she was still sleepy because her eyes were closed.
Judging from her appearance, she had a terrible night... Could she not sleep after seeing all that? If so, that makes sense.
It is clear from the principal's words that Sylvie witnessed everything.
"Are you alright?" A hand approached my cheek as Sylvie, still sleepy, tried to stroke me.
My long-established conditioned reflexes and the pressure I had just been under made my body more tense than usual, and I pushed the hand away when it came close to me.
"what!"
"Awake now?"
"Ah... I'm sorry..." She replied, looking away as I opened my eyes and looked at her.
“…I’m sorry,” I replied. “I didn’t mean to, it was just a reflex.” This girl helped me, whether it was necessary or not. I shouldn’t have been rude to her. “Thank you for your help,” I said, bowing slightly and thanking her without any ulterior motive.
Sylvie blushed slightly at my thanks, her gentle nature shining through even in her drowsy state. "You're welcome," she replied softly, a slight smile playing on her lips. "I'm glad you're alright."
As I focused my attention on Sylvie, the tension I felt with the headmaster seemed to dissipate. Her presence brought comfort and peace, calming the turmoil within me. I don't know why, but it reminded me of happy times from the past... and then unpleasant memories. Those memories that have always haunted me.
“But I shouldn’t have done that.” I looked at the girl. Although her face was flushed, she kept looking away, glancing at me every now and then.
"Is she trying to ask me a question?" I wondered, looking at her awkward expression.
“If you have any questions, just ask,” I said, looking at the girl.
"Ah..." She was surprised by the sudden question. "I..." she stammered, as if she couldn't muster the courage. "I just remembered... I have something to take care of!" Her voice was slightly flustered, and she immediately ran out of the room.
The door slammed shut.
"What's up with her?"
I was left standing there dumbfounded in the room...
"What happened? I heard the door close, and Sylvie is running outside." Before I could even start thinking, the doctor from the infirmary rushed over to ask me what was wrong.
"I have no idea......"
The doctor gave me a knowing look, as if he had seen this situation before.
"Young people these days..."
I heard him laugh and say that I was sure he had misunderstood something, but I didn't care.
"Alright, let's check your wound."
And so, the doctor approached me and began to examine the wound on my chest...
......
"Ah! What did I just do? What did I just do?" Sylvie blamed herself, pacing back and forth outside the infirmary building. With each step, her blonde hair bounced, reflecting her inner unease.
"You idiot, you promised yourself you'd ask him about what you saw. Why are you being shy now?" She scolded herself, frustrated by her own indecisiveness.
“But he looked so serious, and his eyes… I just couldn’t bear to ask him about such personal things,” Sylvie muttered, tugging at her loose hair in frustration.
She was torn between wanting to know about Morse's past and not wanting to interfere with his relationship. She could sense Morse's pain, but didn't want to add to his burden.
The scars Sylvie had seen on his body yesterday flashed through her mind the moment their eyes met. This was followed by shame, for it was the first time she had ever seen a man's naked body so close.
"So that's what their bodies are like." She thought to herself, a blush creeping onto her face.
Even she herself didn't know why she was so determined to help Morse, or why she was so curious about his past.
“Ugh, I’m such a mess,” Sylvie muttered, her frustration evident. “I just… oh well.” Finally, she gave up and started walking towards her dorm until her watch started ringing. “Ah… I forgot to call them!”
......
"Your wound is healing very well," he said with a warm smile. "With a little more rest, you'll recover quickly."
After the doctor examined my wound and healed it with his light-attribute skill, I was allowed to leave the infirmary.
“Thank you, doctor,” I replied, nodding slightly in thanks. “I’m very grateful for your care.”
The doctor smiled gently. "It's my duty to take care of students at the academy," he said with a smile. "Be careful not to push yourself too hard."
And so, I left the infirmary and went outside. Sunlight streamed down my body, and the college was once again packed with students. It was midday.
The doctor told me not to push myself too hard, but I felt fine, so I figured it should be okay. With that thought in mind, I went to my room. Those bastards weren't here anymore. I could be free for a while now.
Once inside the room, I immediately changed my clothes, then drank the wine I had made yesterday, and finally headed to the training ground.
......
Upon entering the training ground, I went to the reception area, where the staff were already waiting. Now it was time to test my long-range weapon skills.
"Hello," I greeted the receptionist.
She looked up from her documents, her expression warm. "Welcome to the training ground. How can I help you?" she asked politely.
“I want to use long-range weapons for target practice,” I explained. Although my talent has blossomed, there’s a concept in this world called ‘enlightenment,’ where someone gains a new career path and can switch weapons mid-career.
Therefore, regardless of one's choice of weapon, the academy allows students to train with any type of weapon they desire, from swords to staves, from spears to bows, and so on...
“Okay,” she replied, walking to a secure cabinet. “We do have some training weapons. I’ll get you one.”
She opened the cabinet and took out a smooth recurve bow and a quiver. "This is a recurve bow. It's a popular choice for those who enjoy practicing with ranged weapons."
As she handed me the bow, I squinted at it. Generally, people who prefer ranged attacks use bows because guns are more difficult to handle.
However, my abilities clearly state that I can imbue items with magic. I assume this means bullets can also be used.
With that in mind, I said to the receptionist, "Could I have a gun?"
"A gun?" The woman's reaction was unexpected.
Yes, I'd like to test it.
"No, you can't. Unless you register a special profession, you are only allowed to use one type of weapon."
"I understand." Hearing this, I wasn't surprised. This is part of the game's mechanics. After all, the academy isn't a charity; all students need to be equipped with weapons. Therefore, they need to implement a rule prohibiting students from carrying any kind of weapon.
After saying that, I left the reception area and headed towards the shooting range.
When I arrived at the shooting range, I set up the target at a suitable distance for my bow and arrow and decided to practice properly.
But just then, I saw a girl with green hair and red eyes holding a bow.
"Alice Thornefield," I thought as I saw her. "Sure enough, she's here."
In the game, she's one of the female protagonists and ranks fifth among the students, so she's a diligent person with good looks. As an archer, she's skilled in calculation and a good role model for me. But I also know that if I stare at her for too long, my fate won't be good.
With that in mind, I decided I should test my own abilities. So, I went to a private shooting range.
