Chapter 8 Going Home
Chapter 8 Going Home
"Young man, young man, wake up and have some water."
Lin Fan couldn't open his eyes, but instinctively drank the water that was fed to him. The water was a little sour, but it tasted exceptionally sweet to him.
His pale, chapped lips regained some color, and he finally managed to open his bruised and purple eyes with difficulty.
Lin Fan discovered that his clothes had been put back on, and in front of him was the family that the smiling tiger had wanted him to kill.
The little girl blinked her big eyes curiously. The five or six-year-old was very cute with her chubby face and delicate features, much like her mother. She already showed signs of becoming a beauty.
"Young man, thank you for letting my family go."
Lin Fan felt a mix of emotions upon hearing this; he didn't deserve to be thanked.
"What happened next?" Lin Fan asked casually, not wanting to accept the thanks.
"You passed out, and that bandit even picked up a dagger and asked if anyone wanted to offer a pledge of allegiance. But everyone here is an honest man, and no one wants to be a bandit, so they had no choice but to take the money and leave."
Lin Fan suddenly thought of something and looked at the disheveled young woman.
"Are you alright?" Lin Fan's voice trembled slightly.
The beautiful woman smoothed her hair and replied somewhat shyly, "They are true to their word, I'm fine."
Lin Fan was relieved. These bandits were really strange. They were just as evil as other bandits, but they were also inexplicably law-abiding.
"Young man, if you're alright, we'll be going now." The man glanced at the already dark sky.
The clear sky was tinged with darkness, like an ugly mask mocking the masses below.
Lin Fan was in pain all over his body and probably could barely walk, but he also knew that the three people in front of him were in dire straits themselves and could not possibly ask them to help him again.
They helped me get dressed, waited for me to wake up, and gave me water; they had already done more than enough.
Lin Fan sincerely thanked them, and then said:
"I'm fine. I just need to sit for a while. My home is in a village a few miles ahead." Lin Fan forced himself to sit up, trying his best to appear alright.
He reached out and searched his pockets, and sure enough, all the money was gone. There were only two pieces of paper in his pocket, which he guessed were the IOU.
Lin Fan suddenly touched something soft on his chest; it was a pastry from the academy.
It seems those bandits didn't care about these things. They didn't make a move.
"Young man, you're too kind. When you're traveling, you should always help others."
The man smiled憨厚ly.
Lin Fan really wanted to thank them, but he had nothing left.
For some reason, she took out the pastries that had crumbled into dust and handed them to the couple in front of her.
"No need, young man, you keep it for yourself," the man said.
But the little girl seemed to have been hungry for a long time; her eyes were fixed on the pastry, and she even licked her little tongue.
The three of them didn't know whether they hadn't brought enough food or if it had been taken by bandits.
"Consider it my thank-you gift," Lin Fan said.
The man tried to leave, but the girl clung tightly to her father's sleeve.
The man hesitated for a moment, then thanked Lin Fan and accepted the pastries wrapped in paper from her hand.
The man licked a small amount with his tongue, held it in his mouth for a moment, nodded to his wife, and then handed it to his daughter.
The little girl took it and started eating it in small bites. She knew there weren't many pastries, and if she ate one big bite, it would be gone in no time.
The sun had already set, but some of its rays still shone on the three people's faces.
Lin Fan felt a warm feeling in his heart as he watched the couple lovingly looking at their daughter.
This was the most peaceful moment in Lin Fan's life since he transmigrated, and it was also the moment that made him feel that the world might not be so bad after all.
The pastries were too dry, and the little girl couldn't swallow them, so the smiling woman gave her a sip of water.
The little girl seemed to notice that her parents hadn't eaten yet, so she stopped and brought the pastry to her mother's mouth.
She took a small bite with her cherry-like lips and then handed it to her husband.
After the couple each took a symbolic bite, the woman poured the remaining crumbs into her daughter's mouth.
The three thanked Lin Fan repeatedly before leaving.
"Young man, my home is in Tulong Village over there. Come visit me sometime."
After saying that, the man picked up his wife and children and left.
Lin Fan watched their departing figures, deciding to rest a little longer before going home.
Watching the two adults and one child walk away, Lin Fan suddenly felt that the world wasn't all bad.
Lin Fan watched the three figures shrink with a smile on his lips, then suddenly frowned.
The smallest figure suddenly collapsed to the ground, and the couple quickly squatted down, bustling around doing something.
Lin Fan felt a pang in his heart.
"No, no, how could this be, it can't be like this!"
A series of thoughts flashed through his mind, giving him a splitting headache.
Lin Fan dragged himself toward them. Both of his legs were badly injured, and it was unclear whether any bones were broken.
His way of moving forward could no longer be described as limping; sometimes his left leg dragged his right, and sometimes his right leg dragged his left.
The three had already walked quite a distance, but Lin Fan dragged his feet and it took him a long time to catch up with them.
"How could this happen? What the hell is going on?!" Lin Fan roared at Hei Tian.
At this point, all three of them were lying on the ground.
The child's face was bluish-purple and she was motionless, seemingly lifeless. There was a puddle of vomit next to her, from which pastries could be seen, indicating that the couple had tried to save her but had failed.
The young woman was unable to move; clearly, she was breathing more gas than she was taking in.
Her handsome face turned venomous, and her eyes widened as she stared intently at Lin Fan.
When the man saw Lin Fan arrive, he used his last bit of strength to crawl toward him.
Lin Fan hurried over.
The man reached out to grab Lin Fan's neck, so Lin Fan put his neck in his hand.
The man's hands were calloused, wide and large, indicating he must have been very strong and a skilled farmer in the past.
But when he grabbed Lin Fan by the neck, Lin Fan didn't feel any pain at all.
Lin Fan really wanted to be strangled to death by the man, but he clearly couldn't do that anymore.
The man struggled for a long time, using all his strength, until his hand finally went limp, but his eyes were still fixed on Lin Fan.
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry..."
Sorry,
Sorry,
Sorry,
sorry……
Lin Fan kept talking, but no one could hear him anymore.
Lin Fan picked up his still-mobile left hand and slapped himself hard across the face.
To be honest, his face was very swollen and his hands were weak, so he could barely feel the pain.
He wished it were all a dream.
I was lying in bed playing on my phone, how did I end up in this damn place?
Damn it, damn it, everything here deserves to die, including myself.
Lin Fan looked at the puddle of vomit on the ground beside him, and he had an urge to rush over and eat it.
After hesitating for a moment, Lin Fan still didn't pick up the pastries from the vomit on the ground and eat them.
The feeling was strange; he felt he deserved to die, but he wasn't the only one who deserved to die.
It would be too easy for those people to die like this.
Even if the hope is slim, he will live on and one day he will punch this damned world.
……
Lin Fan dragged the three bodies to a secluded spot and hid them, then straightened their disheveled clothes. The couple held their child in their arms.
After moving a few times, Lin Fan felt exhausted, his body covered in cold sweat and trembling uncontrollably.
Lin Fan really wanted to dig a hole and bury them, but he simply didn't have the strength.
Maybe we'll all die here before we finish digging the pit.
He tried his best to find some branches and leaves to help them bury it.
Lin Fan knelt beside him and said devoutly, "Amitabha Buddha, God loves all people. Whoever it is, please bless their corpses so that they are not mistreated or eaten by wild animals."
After bowing three times, Lin Fan dragged himself away in one direction.
It's time to go home.
