Chapter 294 Revolutionaries Leave Their Hometowns

“My dear mother came to see me off to join the army, and my relatives rushed over when they heard the news.”

"Young man, where are you going? Young man, do you want to join the army?"

"Going to the battlefield is just asking for trouble; you'll only be throwing your life away."

Who will cultivate the fields? Who will operate the machines in the factory?

"It doesn't matter if the Revolutionary Front doesn't have you..."

The melodious singing and the sound of a broken guitar echoed across the plain, accompanied by a few shouts and the crackling of the campfire. Alice looked at the people in front of her.

“Our People’s Red Army and the revolutionary front have principles. Your hometown is on the other side of the battlefield. There is no way you can cross the front line to return home.”

"But if you want to go back, we will not stop you. However, you still have a choice."

Alice was holding up a map, a map of all of Colombia.

"Go west, go west, we'll come back. You don't want Mike Douglas to come after you, do you? Then we can go together, all the way to Montana, and embark on our journey together."

"We will permanently change this country and the world, so that everyone can stand on this land equally, and there will be no more distinction between the poor and the rich."

"Your home is in the Steel Belt, and our warriors also come from the Steel Belt, from Chicago, from Pittsburgh, from Detroit and Cleveland."

“We all share a common homeland, and we will fight back.”

The land of Colombia was engulfed in the roar of war. Some wept, some rejoiced, some worried about their families far away, and some were concerned about the situation in their hometowns. Some prisoners left, and some stayed. Alice agreed to all of them. Many remained with the group and set off into the night.

The truck turned off its lights and headed north. Alice, like everyone else, was on the truck, looking out over the endless plains.

There were large forests on the outskirts of northern Louisiana, and trucks were driving through them. Alice received a telegram that the comrades from the other columns had already arrived at the base.

This reassured her that Mike Douglas hadn't noticed their small unit; the front lines were locked in a stalemate, with each side trying to achieve a tactical breakthrough.

From his headquarters at Fort Hill, Mike Douglas continued to issue orders, recruiting soldiers from the Midwest and procuring weapons from arsenals. The Western Union still stood firm in the Rocky Mountains, with mountain infantry eyeing him menacingly. But Mike Douglas was not worried about them. The Western Union, led by California, claimed neutrality, and their troops were few in number, barely enough to defend their land.

Michael Douglas's center was still in the east, where cities that had been well-developed before the Great Frontier possessed a level of urban sophistication and industry that the Midwest could not match.

He was overwhelmed with problems in these cities every day. The United States was losing some key strongholds, and he needed those cities.

Alice's unit naturally went unnoticed by him, and after crossing the front lines, Mike Douglas completely forgot about them.

The central column headed north, leaving Kansas and entering northern Louisiana. Heavy snow fell, and white enveloped the earth. The sky and earth were like a blank sheet of paper, completely one color.

The trucks drove out of the plains and into the mountains and forests of northern Louisiana, where mountains and forests stood tall, interspersed with swamps, deer leaped through the woods, and the soldiers' cotton-padded coats were covered with traces of snow.

Alice flipped through the notebook recording her own deeds in the car, occasionally sighing. The manuscripts from Rafis Yao, Vera, Anna and others were indeed heavily filtered and they liked to overuse exclamations.

Alice could only painstakingly extract the message contained in these short sentences.

The truck stopped in front of a river, and Alice looked away from her book, her delicate brows furrowing as she gazed at the broken bridge over the river.

"The truck in front crushed the bridge; this section of the bridge couldn't support such a heavy vehicle."

Alice nodded and responded. They were the rear guard of the transport team, and with so many trucks passing by, the small wooden bridge in front of them was probably reaching its limit.

She jumped off the truck. A cold wind blew, and icicles hung from the dead trees. The snow on the ground wasn't very thick.

Animal sounds echoed from time to time in the forest. Alice looked worriedly at the cliff; this forest was not a safe place to stay. Trucks rumbled, trying to wade through the forest. Alice held her notebook.

"Alice... so she's a vampire~ which means she needs to drink blood?"

She licked her canine teeth, glanced at Rafis Yao who had jumped down with her, and raised one of her hands. Rafis Yao looked at Alice, rolled up her sleeve, and revealed the veins on her hand.

"No, Alice, that's indecent..."

Rafis pulled a small knife from her bosom and made a cut on her vein. Alice then leaned over, supporting Rafis's arm with one hand and holding the book in the other.

Soon, Alice raised her face, her saliva sealing the wound and causing the tissue to grow and heal quickly. Rafis felt an itch on her arm and was momentarily dizzy.

"Ugh..."

"I'm so sorry, Rafis, I've made you suffer."

"It's ok."

Alice held the book between her fingers as she looked out over the woods. Trucks were passing one after another across the river, which wasn't deep but was rather swift.

Alice estimated that, barring any unforeseen circumstances, they would be able to cross the river soon. She exhaled a little warm air and rubbed her hands together.

boom!

Suddenly, gunfire erupted, and Alice gritted her teeth. The guard beside her immediately raised his gun.

"what happened?"

The order was given, and the soldiers quickly got out of the vehicles, trying to find something. Radio commands echoed through the channels, but no reports of an attack came in.

boom!boom!

"This doesn't look like one of our weapons..."

"Raphse said, but Alice wasn't focused on that; she was looking around at the hillsides."

"Quick! Don't stay here!"

The danger doesn't come from bullets, it comes from nature.

The earth was shaking, Alice noticed it. The snow was shaking, the structure supporting the snow piled up was shaken and then collapsed. Under the sweep of gravity, the snow moved downwards, sweeping up everything in its path, piling up continuously like a wave.

The snow avalanche occurred.

"leave here!"

On the surrounding mountains, snow was collapsing, swirling, and falling. Alice's breathing became rapid. She grabbed Raphis's hand, but didn't know where to dodge it.

The snow fell with a whooshing sound.
