Chapter 169: Kill Maya

"Aargghhh!" The assassin screamed in pain, managing to survive. However, Milinda immediately closed in. She thrust her spear multiple times, overwhelming the assassin and ultimately killing him.

Then Auric shouted, "Get back and finish the rest!"

"!!!" Ellia and Milinda heard it loud and clear. They rushed back to the team, while Arina and Eric held back some beasts.

Auric took a deep breath to readjust himself, since he had exhausted his unique element energy.

Lindwurm said, "You still won’t be able to copy this element yet. I can’t allow you to make the same mistake."

’It looks like we’re going to have a long talk about this once this is over.’ Auric took a deep breath and shifted his focus back to the beasts.

Now that there were no more assassins and the number of beasts had dwindled, they started taking down the beasts normally, while gradually retreating to a safer spot.

After seeing that mysterious power, everyone couldn’t help but form a different opinion about Auric.

Eric thought, ’He has this kind of power hidden all the time? Or does it have something to do with that necklace or his unique element?’

Milinda narrowed her eyes. ’Now that I think about it, Auric has never shown his unique element specifically. I don’t know what his unique element is, but after seeing that power, I know why he wants to keep it hidden.’

Arina gulped. ’His unique element is terrifying. Predicting the future? It feels like he’s able to see through everything, not only the enemy’s movements but also their positions.’

Ellia was the only one smiling. ’I’m already tired of being surprised with him around, so even if he tells me he’s a god’s child or something, I might believe it at this point.’

Auric remained calm the entire time, watching the situation as calmly as he could. Fortunately, it looked like they were out of danger.

So Auric asked, "What are we going to do with those assassins?"

Ellia paused for a moment before saying, "Arina, go check their bodies and see if you can find anything useful. After that, we will just leave them behind. The beasts will take care of it for us."

"You’re not going to use their bodies as proof or something?"

"And what? Exposing everything? You don’t seem like someone who wants to expose everything. That information is only needed through word of mouth. That is more than enough."

"..." Auric couldn’t really say anything else.

Arina immediately went to check their bodies, while the rest of the team killed the remaining beasts around them.

Unfortunately, she couldn’t find anything useful, so they immediately retreated to find a much safer spot. They also needed more information about the current situation.

Meanwhile, Maya had arrived at the mall that was supposed to be the ruins.

She could feel the extraordinary energy from this mall, but she couldn’t feel any difference between this place and other ruins.

"I don’t know the elements of this place, but I guess I just have to trust the information. If this is what they’re aiming for..." Maya looked back. "It’s not exactly that far from the city, but it’s quite secluded."

Maya had to go through an empty neighborhood, so not many would pass through it. There was also a forest separating this place from the neighborhood, so she understood why they were the first to discover it.

"Most likely, the enemy found the information about this underground mall after Auric and his team entered their radar."

This was the only explanation. It all started when Auric, Arina, and Ellia visited the ruins. Of course, they also encountered them doing the transaction, which made the organization target them.

However, when they investigated Auric and the team, they should have stumbled upon the report about the ruins. After all, Ellia was the one making that report.

It was registered through normal channels, so everyone could see it.

Maya frowned, trying to figure out the whole situation. For the time being, she couldn’t see any trace that this place had been visited before.

"Is the speculation wrong? Is this place not targeted?" Maya crossed her arms. "This is the entrance. It should be where most of the energy..."

Maya fell silent as soon as she found the entrance.

She bent her knees and looked at the footprints. "This doesn’t look old... No, it’s recent, very recent."

Maya looked around, raising her guard.

"Someone must have visited this place not long ago. He might still be here..." Maya carefully circled the mall to see if she could find anything. It was there that she found a hole that led to the parking lot.

When she was about to enter and inspect the ruins further, a man suddenly emerged from the hole.

"!!!" Both of them were startled by each other’s sudden appearance.

"You..." They released their energy at the same time.

Maya kicked him, while the mysterious man grabbed his sword and drew it, using the blade to block the kick.

Maya’s kick exploded with power, forming a massive cross-shaped impact. Meanwhile, the man’s sword unleashed a surging earth element.

Surprisingly, both of them were able to withstand each other’s attacks.

The man stabbed the ground, causing the rock underneath Maya to rise, launching her into the air.

After that, he swung his sword with all his power.

Maya was cut by this power, but her body soon turned dark and split into two. She used the Night Silhouette to make it look like she had cloned herself.

Then both of them approached the man from different directions.

The man stomped the ground and formed a massive earth wall on both sides.

In that instant, he knew which one was the clone and which one was the real body. After all, the clone wouldn’t be powerful enough to destroy his wall. Even if it did, it would still be weaker than the real body.

Maya was charging her power and tried to pierce him through the wall.

However, she might be able to break through the wall, but the guy already put his sword on the side, blocking her attack easily.

Still, Maya’s fighting style was flexible. The moment she was stopped, she twisted her body and launched another kick, sending him away.

"..." Maya looked at the man who was sliding on the floor while still maintaining his balance. This person wasn’t an easy opponent. However, he was certainly an enemy.

After all, the first time they met, this man had also attacked her. He was wary of another person in a place where he wasn’t supposed to be.

Once there was a distance between them, Maya asked, "Who are you? What is your organization? Do you think you can take this place for yourself?"

"It looks like you intend to catch me. But do you think you can do it?" The man smiled. A five-meter-tall golem appeared behind him.

The golem was made of something unusual. It looked like a solid piece of black metal.

Maya couldn’t see through the element of this golem, but it didn’t matter. She would simply do what she normally did, breaking through everything in her way.

Her dark energy started to envelop her body, but it soon split into four, going to both hands and feet. Her limbs suddenly grew, turning into something similar to a demon’ limbs.

Her eyes turned completely dark as if they were replaced by the night sky.

The man, on the other hand, raised his power to the maximum. His body was covered in metal, which would make it harder for anyone to break his defense. His sword turned black.

The golem was the first one to make a move.

"Ooohhhh!" The golem let out a cry and produced spikes that spread continuously toward Maya.

Normally, someone would jump up, and the man would cut them down when they would have a hard time dodging.

On the other hand, Maya let her avatar step forward. It spread darkness on the ground, covering the spikes, which ultimately stopped their expansion.

"I know this is going to happen." The man smirked and put his right foot forward before bending his body, swinging his sword horizontally. His sword strike expanded and cut all the spikes and ultimately reached Maya.

Maya saw this as another attempt to force her to jump.

That was why she split her legs and lowered her body until her chest touched the ground, directly avoiding the blade.

On the other hand, her avatar simply took that attack head-on. The Eternal Night avatar was cut, but its body simply reformed as though nothing had happened.

Maya looked down, noticing the movement of energy beneath the ground.

A spike suddenly emerged and stabbed her. Since Maya didn’t jump, her body was much closer to the ground, which made it faster to summon a spike to hit her.

Unfortunately for the man, the one he stabbed was just an afterimage.

"!!!" The man glanced to the right, seeing Maya covering the distance between them instantly.

She leaped toward him and swung both hands as though she wanted to slice him apart.

The man used his sword to block it, but Maya’s strength was simply too powerful. He was pushed back, but he managed to maintain his balance.

Nevertheless, he stopped Maya’s movement. The golem raised its big arm and punched her.

However, a powerful arrow hit the golem’s arm and destroyed it.

The man glanced to the side, seeing Maya’s avatar forming a bow out of dark energy.

"Well, this is a problem." The man smiled, still looking relaxed.

Maya disappeared one more time. However, the man seemed to be able to follow her movements perfectly. He tilted his body to the right and raised his sword, striking the air.

But the next second, Maya appeared with her fist clashing against the sword.

The energy from their clash erupted violently and caused the ground to shake.

"Do you know how many people are troubled by the existence of the ruins? Don’t you want to solve the mystery about the ruins?"

"I don’t see any reasons why poisoning the students is the solution to that mystery." Maya rushed toward him.

"You wouldn’t understand." The man swung his sword.

They traded blows, each blow causing the energy to erupt and disrupting the entire area.

Maya couldn’t find a way to defeat him anytime soon. This man was at the same level as her, unlike the brutes that stopped her near the gate.

Maya’s expression turned solemn. Even though they were clashing like this and neither side seemed likely to win, the man remained calm.

If the man wanted this city, he would have to rush to defeat her and do whatever he needed to foil their plans.

But for some reason, this man remained here simply because he had another agenda.

If the city remained standing, it could be used as a rally point to stop any construction near the ruins. So, why would he remain calm like this?

"I don’t know what you’re planning, but I’m in a rush." Maya released all her power, planning to finish this battle within five minutes.

"In a rush? Well, that’s a shame. Because I’m the same." The man smiled.

He confused her one more time. There was no way this man was in a rush, but she soon understood the calmness on his face.

A powerful fire beam flew toward her from afar.

"!!!" Maya widened her eyes, poured everything she had into her left hand, and used it to block the beam.

The beam was so powerful that it knocked her back, but she managed to land just fine. Still, her hand was numb, as she hadn’t expected a powerful attack from a distance. More importantly, the one sending that attack was also equal to her in power.

Suddenly, the man leaped forward.

"!!!" Maya tried to block him, but she realized he had the momentum, so she immediately leaped back, but the man was one step ahead.

He slashed at Maya, leaving a deep wound from her right chest up to her shoulder.

She could see the man’s eyes turning cold as he spoke. "In a rush to kill you, that is."
