Chapter 379 Destined to be just a passerby
The two women walked out of the ward and came to the window at the end of the corridor.
The early winter night wind seeped in through the cracks in the window, carrying a biting chill.
“Nurse Lin,” Li Xiaoyun looked directly into Lin Yuqing’s eyes, “thank you for saving my husband.”
Lin Yuqing shook her head: "I should be thanking him. If it weren't for him..."
“I know,” Li Xiaoyun interrupted her, her voice gentle yet firm, “and I also know your feelings for him.”
Lin Yuqing's expression changed, and she opened her mouth, but no sound came out.
Li Xiaoyun continued, "I don't blame you. If I were in his shoes, I would also be attracted to a man like him. But..." She gently stroked her slightly protruding belly, "He is already my husband and the father of this child."
Lin Yuqing lowered her head, her voice almost inaudible: "I know... I won't..."
“I believe in your character,” Li Xiaoyun said, taking Lin Yuqing’s hand in hers. “If we had met under other circumstances, we might have become good friends.”
Lin Yuqing looked up, tears welling in her eyes. "Comrade Li... don't worry, I won't do anything out of line. I just..." She took a deep breath, "...was just moved by his courage and kindness."
Li Xiaoyun nodded. "I understand. That's just the kind of person he is; he always draws people in unconsciously." She paused. "But please believe me, his feelings for me are real, and I don't want anyone to destroy our family."
Lin Yuqing wiped away the tears from the corners of her eyes and said firmly, "I won't. Please don't worry."
The two women stood facing each other in the night, each seeing the determination and stubbornness in the other's eyes.
Li Xiaoyun finally let go of his hand and smiled slightly: "Let's go back, he must be worried."
When they returned to the ward, Li Xiangyang was nervously watching the door. Seeing the two of them return together, chatting and laughing, he immediately breathed a sigh of relief.
"What...did you talk about?" he asked cautiously.
Li Xiaoyun and Lin Yuqing exchanged a glance and smiled simultaneously: "A woman's secret."
Lin Yuqing quickly took her leave, leaving Li Xiangyang and Li Xiaoyun alone.
"You two really didn't have a fight?" Li Xiangyang was still a little uneasy.
Li Xiaoyun rolled her eyes at him: "What do we have to argue about? Besides, are you worth us arguing for?"
Li Xiangyang chuckled awkwardly: "That's true..."
Li Xiaoyun sat back down on the edge of the bed and said softly, "Xiangyang, I know that a man like you will always have women who like him. But I believe in you, and I believe in myself. Our relationship won't be so easily shaken."
Li Xiangyang reached out and pulled her into his arms: "Wife, you can rest assured, you're the only one I'll ever love."
Li Xiaoyun leaned on his shoulder and whispered, "I know, let's go to sleep."
……
The next morning, sunlight streamed into the ward through the curtains, and Li Xiangyang slowly opened his eyes.
Last night, Li Xiaoyun slept on the chair next to the hospital bed and is still fast asleep.
Li Xiangyang quietly got up and stretched his somewhat stiff limbs.
The wound on my head doesn't hurt as much anymore, it just stings occasionally.
"You're awake?" Li Xiaoyun rubbed her sleepy eyes and sat up.
"Yes," Li Xiangyang nodded, "I feel much better, I should be able to be discharged today."
Li Xiaoyun yawned: "Don't rush, let's wait for the doctor to make rounds."
Just as the two finished getting ready, there was a knock on the ward door, and a middle-aged male doctor walked in.
"Li Xiangyang, right? Let me check your wound." The doctor skillfully lifted the gauze, examined the stitched wound, and then checked Li Xiangyang's pupils with a flashlight. "The recovery is going well; you can be discharged today."
"Thank you, doctor," Li Xiangyang said with a sigh of relief. "Can I leave now?"
The doctor nodded: "Okay, but you still need to take care of the wound. Come back in two weeks to have the stitches removed. Remember to take your medication on time, and seek medical attention immediately if you experience dizziness or nausea."
After the doctor left, Li Xiangyang eagerly put on his clothes: "Honey, let's pack up and go home."
Li Xiaoyun smiled and shook her head: "What's the rush? We can wait until Mother and the others arrive before leaving."
As they were talking, Li's mother and Li Xiaohua arrived at the ward door, carrying a food box in their hands.
"Son, how are you feeling?" Li's mother asked with concern.
"Much better, Mom," Li Xiangyang replied with a smile. "The doctor said I can be discharged."
Li Xiaohua said happily, "Great! Brother, we brought you breakfast, it's egg noodles I made myself!"
Li Xiangyang ruffled his younger sister's hair: "My little Hua is so capable."
The family was having breakfast when Lin Yuqing came to take them out of the hospital to complete the discharge procedures.
"This is the discharge form, and there's also follow-up medication," she handed the things to Li Xiangyang, her eyes intentionally avoiding his gaze. "Remember to come back in two weeks to remove the stitches."
Li Xiaoyun accepted it: "Thank you for taking care of him."
Lin Yuqing shook her head: "It's what I should do." She paused, seemingly choosing her words carefully, "I wish you... happiness."
After saying that, she turned and left.
Li Xiangyang watched her departing figure, feeling a mix of emotions, but was quickly pulled back to reality by Li Xiaoyun's voice.
"What are you daydreaming about? Pack your things and let's go."
Li Xiangyang then came to his senses, helped pack their belongings, and the family left the hospital after completing the formalities.
Standing at the hospital entrance, the winter sun shone on me, bringing a reassuring warmth.
Li Xiangyang took a deep breath and whispered, "Wife, you must believe me, I love you."
Li Xiaoyun was taken aback, then a shy smile appeared on her face: "Silly boy, what nonsense are you talking about all of a sudden?"
Li Xiangyang smiled and took her hand: "It's nothing, I just suddenly wanted to tell you."
The two looked at each other and smiled, starting a new day under the winter sun.
Just as they were about to leave the hospital, Li Xiangyang suddenly stopped and looked back at the hospital building.
From the third-floor window, a familiar figure was watching them. It was Lin Yuqing.
She seemed to notice Li Xiangyang's gaze, raised her hand slightly in acknowledgment, and then turned and disappeared through the window.
Li Xiangyang nodded silently, then turned around and followed his family who were already walking ahead.
Life is like a journey, with encounters and partings.
Undeniably, Lin Yuqing is a good girl, but the timing of their meeting was wrong, and the two were destined to be just passersby.
"Xiangyang, hurry up!" Li Xiaoyun waved from ahead. "We're going home."
Li Xiangyang smiled and quickly followed.
After returning home from the hospital to the county town, Li Xiangyang felt much better. Although the wound on his head was still a little sore, it was much better than yesterday.
"Son, lie down and rest for a while," Li's mother said with concern. "I'll go cook."
“Mom, I’m not tired,” Li Xiangyang waved his hand. “Besides, I’ve been lying in the hospital all day.”
Li Xiaoyun pressed him down onto the bed without giving him a chance to argue: "Stop being stubborn, just lie down."
Li Xiangyang had no choice but to lie down. Watching Li Xiaoyun and his mother busily preparing lunch, a warm feeling welled up in his heart.
