Chapter 188 Mooncakes

Chapter 188 Mooncakes

I stood quietly in the center of the nearly perfectly decorated embroidery workshop, my gaze slowly sweeping over every corner. A strong sense of accomplishment welled up within me. This was a palace of art that my master and I had expended countless hours of effort to create! However, even as I reveled in this joy, a subtle worry crept into my heart. Although most of the work was complete, some crucial elements were still missing.

After much deliberation, my master and I exchanged a smile and agreed to jointly compile a detailed inventory. This list not only covered the items we had already purchased, but also highlighted any special tools and precious materials that were urgently needed. In the days that followed, we embarked on a long and arduous treasure hunt, crisscrossing the streets, through antique shops, and bustling handicraft markets.

On our quest, we were like explorers, constantly unearthing those hidden treasures tucked away in the corners of the city. Our efforts paid off, and we finally discovered several little-known shops. These shops, like treasure troves forgotten by time, were filled with a dazzling array of bizarre and surprising items.

In one of these unassuming shops, my eye was suddenly caught by a bundle of dazzling silk thread. Its color was vibrant and unique, like the brightest clouds in the sky. Instantly, I felt a surge of joy: Could this be the rare silk thread we've been searching for, capable of creating extraordinary embroidery works? The craftsman beside me was even more thrilled. He carefully cradled the thread in his hands, as if it were the most precious treasure in the world. His face lit up with a smile of immense satisfaction, one filled with endless anticipation for the exquisite embroidery to be created.

Filled with joy, we didn't stop, but bravely pressed on, seeking more untold surprises. After countless hardships, we finally found all the items we needed. As we returned to the embroidery workshop, sunlight streamed through the windows, casting dappled shadows on the ground, as if welcoming our triumphant return. Gazing at the mountain of treasures before me, I knew a new embroidery journey was about to begin...

Although our search over the past two days has yielded some results, some items remain unseen. Seeing this, Master, after a moment's deliberation, decided to return home and bring back the remaining items. After bidding Master farewell, I, too, began preparing to return home and rest up, after all, the recent days of travel had been exhausting.

Dragging my exhausted body, I slowly opened the door and stepped into the familiar, warm space. The first thing I did upon entering was to eagerly shed my shoes, which had been restricting me for so long, and quickly slip into incredibly comfortable slippers. Then, like a deflated ball, I lazily collapsed onto the soft sofa, picked up my phone, and began aimlessly scrolling through various short videos.

My finger kept scrolling across the screen when a video of mooncakes being made suddenly caught my eye. I was captivated by the exquisite, alluring mooncakes, unable to look away. Then, as if awakened from a dream, I exited the current page and quickly checked my phone's calendar. It dawned on me that the annual Mid-Autumn Festival was just around the corner!

Staring at the works of art in the video, my mouth watered. I thought to myself, "This Mid-Autumn Festival, I absolutely must make delicious mooncakes myself! Not only that, I'll try making a variety of different flavors so my friends and family can enjoy my craftsmanship!" With that thought, an overwhelming urge surged up, driving me to leap off the couch and rush to the kitchen to prepare the necessary ingredients and tools.

First, I carefully kneaded the dough, following the detailed steps in the video. The flour gradually became smooth and delicate in my hands, as if it came alive. Next, I meticulously prepared a variety of fillings, each exuding a unique, mouth-watering aroma. Once everything was ready, I wrapped the fillings in the dough and skillfully kneaded them into delicate mooncake shapes with my hands. Since this mooncake-making project was a spur-of-the-moment decision, I didn't have any special molds prepared beforehand, but this didn't faze me at all. After some effort, all the mooncakes finally took shape!

The final step is to gently place these adorable little guys into the preheated oven and patiently wait for their gorgeous transformation...

Before long, the alluring aroma wafted from the oven, and soon, golden, steaming, and fragrant mooncakes emerged from the oven! Unable to contain my eagerness, I quickly grabbed a mooncake like a hungry tiger and took a small bite. Wow! The exquisite taste instantly exploded in my mouth. The sweet and soft filling blended perfectly with the crispy and delicious crust. The flavor was simply intoxicating and irresistible.

Excited, I quickly pulled out my laptop, adjusted the angle, and began snapping away at the exquisite mooncakes, happily planning to share them on social media to show off. Just as I was happily fiddling with the photos, the doorbell rang. Confused, I hurried to the door, opened it, and peered in. Standing there was Wei'er! She was smiling, holding something I'd been searching for.

"Haha, you look so busy running around, you must be working so hard. So, I'll help you collect all the other things you can't find!" Wei'er said as she waved the items in her hands, her face filled with a warm and friendly smile. Hearing this, I almost jumped for joy. I quickly reached out and grabbed Wei'er's arm, happily dragging her into the house. I enthusiastically handed her a freshly baked mooncake, looked at her expectantly, and secretly prayed for her praise.

Wei'er took the mooncake but didn't eat it immediately. Instead, she carefully examined it for a moment, as if admiring a fine work of art. Then, she gently took a small bite and began to chew it slowly, savoring the flavor. Suddenly, her bright eyes lit up slightly, a subtle flash of surprise.

"Hmm...it's really good! It tastes amazing!" Wei'er did not hesitate to praise him and exclaimed sincerely, "It seems that your cooking skills are improving day by day, and you are almost catching up with professional chefs!" After hearing her words, my heart felt as sweet as if I had eaten honey, and I couldn't stop smiling.

My heart felt sweet, as if it were filled with honey. Facing Wei'er's sincere and enthusiastic praise, I smiled a little sheepishly, then humbly responded, "Oh, Wei'er, thank you for thinking so highly of me! Actually, I still have a lot to learn and figure out. I'll need your guidance along the way!"

We were leisurely sitting on the sofa, savoring our sweet, delicious mooncakes. The moonlight outside the window shone like water, casting a silver veil over the courtyard. As we slowly munched on our mooncakes, we chatted about all sorts of things, creating a warm and harmonious atmosphere.

Suddenly, Wei'er changed the subject and curiously asked about the current progress of the kindergarten renovation project I was responsible for. So I explained the details to her in detail and then told her the subsequent plans and arrangements without reservation.

Time slipped away in this relaxed and joyful exchange. When we came to our senses, we realized that the sun had already slowly set in the west, like a ripe orange, gradually disappearing into the distant horizon. Night fell like a huge black curtain, slowly enveloping the earth.

Finally, after a reluctant farewell, Wei'er and I set off on our journey home. At that moment, a sense of unprecedented contentment welled up within me. Recalling every detail of this special day—the wonderful conversations, Wei'er's heartwarming smile, the delicious mooncake in my hand... especially the wonderful thoughts I'd generated about the Mid-Autumn Festival. They not only brought me the delight of delicious food but also opened a whole new world of thought, sparking many new and unique ideas.
