Chapter 361 [Empire] My Plants

Chapter 361 [Empire] My Plants

The city still mimicked the scorching summer heat in the early morning, the sun scorching the streets mercilessly. I hurried to school, sweat already soaking my back, even though it was still early. The moment I entered the classroom, the cool air finally gave me a sigh of relief, but then I looked at my desk, and my emotions became more complicated.

Next to my desk, on the ground, the meter-tall mung bean plant still stood, its branches laden with fruit, a vibrant green that shone brilliantly under the dim classroom light. Its presence had long become a spectacle for the entire class, yet apparently, no one could truly deal with it, or rather, dared to.

Whenever the teacher's eyes swept over the mung bean, he would involuntarily frown, as if he had seen a question beyond the syllabus. The students would discuss it in groups of three or four, some watching the show, some unable to help but snicker, but most chose to ignore this absurd existence.

I pulled out a chair helplessly and sat down, looking at this "proud" mung bean, sighing in my heart.

"You must feel quite accomplished, don't you?" I murmured to myself, lightly touching its leaves with my fingertips. The leaves trembled slightly, as if responding to my words.

As the teacher walked into the classroom, he glanced at me a few times, his expression filled with helplessness, but he ultimately said nothing. Perhaps even he didn't know what to do with this "extraordinary" mung bean.

"Today's task is to summarize the plant growth cycle and process the results." The teacher announced at the podium, his eyes fell on my desk again and stayed for two seconds, as if deliberately avoiding this difficult question.

My classmates around me were busy tending to the mung bean seedlings in their small pots, some anxiously awaiting their germination, others meticulously cleaning the tender pods. I, on the other hand, could only sit there, staring at this "outside visitor," not knowing where to begin.

"As you wish," the teacher finally sighed and walked over to my desk. "Your 'mung bean tree'... uh, what are you going to do with it?"

"I..." I was speechless. Looking at the branches full of bean pods, I smiled bitterly. "Teacher, how about this be considered an unexpected result? Why don't I take it back and use it as an ornamental plant?"

The teacher frowned, clearly frustrated and troubled by the suggestion. He put his hand to his forehead and finally waved it off. "Forget it, keep it for now, but you have to make sure it doesn't affect other people's experiments. Next time there's a similar situation, report it in advance."

"I understand." I nodded repeatedly, trying to appear sincere.

The issue of mung beans was put aside for the time being, but it still stood beside my desk. I knew that I had to really solve it instead of letting it continue to "occupy" a corner of the classroom.

At the end of class, a few classmates came over with a mix of curiosity and teasing: "Ruyuan, this mung bean has grown like this, shouldn't we declare it a new species?"

"Or maybe we could just grow it into soybeans?" another person laughed. "Maybe we could even get it the nickname 'Bean King'."

I just smiled and didn't say anything, but I couldn't help thinking that this mung bean really should be placed somewhere instead of staying here like a "work of art" that is a headache for me.

I glanced down at my backpack, a complex feeling of helplessness filling my heart. Inside were my "secrets": a cyan seedling that served as a nighttime ambient light, and a transparent young vine with its own cooling effect. Although they were my "companions," recent circumstances had made it difficult for me to easily place them on the table.

The cyan seedling has grown considerably. It's relatively quiet during the day, but at night, its turquoise glow erupts uncontrollably, acting like a natural ambient light, even brighter than simulated city lights. While the light is beautiful, it's also incredibly eye-catching. If anyone saw it, I wouldn't know how to explain it.

As for the transparent young vine, while its growth rate isn't as fast as the seedling, its capabilities are clearly growing. Lately, it seems unwilling to stay put. If I even slightly relax my control, it will quickly spread out to create a cold zone about a meter and a half wide. The air around me seems to be a reminder of its presence—yes, the temperature around me is always unnaturally low.

Therefore, these two can no longer be displayed openly on the table like the green beans. I can only stuff them as much as possible into my backpack and carry them with me, using the backpack's insulating material and some specially designed sealing devices to barely conceal their abnormalities. Even so, I still have to be cautious when carrying this backpack, for fear that they will suddenly "cause trouble."

During a break, I accidentally touched the zipper of my backpack and felt a slight chill seeping through the gap. It was a "reminder" from the transparent young vine, which seemed dissatisfied with being confined in the backpack.

"Don't mess around." I whispered to the backpack, as if to comfort them.

The classmate next to me glanced at me with a puzzled look on his face: "Who are you talking to?"

"Nothing." I quickly shook my head to cover it up, pretending to lower my head to pack my things. Fortunately, the other party didn't ask any further questions, just stared at me curiously and walked away.

I sighed, zipped up my backpack, and reminded myself not to be careless. Right now, I haven't found a suitable environment where they can freely unleash their true nature. Until then, I can only continue to carry them with caution, concealing their presence while carefully ensuring their growth remains unnoticed.

After all, the "specialness" of these two people is really not something that ordinary people can understand.
