Chapter 3802 The School Doctor's "Daily Life" (Seventeen)
Mephisto stood behind the library's registration counter, utterly perplexed, his head filled with visibly question marks.
"Could it be that Stephen found out I was here last time?" He walked around the counter and said, "But there's no need to set the trigger frequency so complicated, is there? I can't crack it without brute force."
Schiller leaned against the counter and said, "What's wrong?"
"The lock on the secret room door has been changed. You can think of it as replacing a simple bolt with a smart combination lock. I can't open it now."
“Stephen must have found you messing around with the movie props, so he locked the door,” Schiller said.
Mephisto shook his head and said, "The chances of him flying over and beating me up are higher than the chances of him designing such a complicated lock to lock the door. This doesn't seem like Stephen's style."
“That’s probably because someone doesn’t like you.” Schiller chuckled smugly. “Alright, we definitely can’t rehearse today. Let’s talk about it tomorrow. I’m going home now.”
After saying that, Schiller left. Mephisto was still a little unwilling, seemingly hesitant about whether to break the lock by force, but after thinking about it, he decided to give up. After all, if it really was Strange who locked it, and he went up and smashed the lock with one punch, that petty Strange would definitely kick him out of the cast.
Just after the two of them left, three Batmen emerged from the secret room. The room was well soundproofed, and they didn't hear anyone outside.
But who is Batman? He's the world's greatest detective. When he came out, he noticed some fibrous lint on the registration counter, which looked like it was left by a sleeve pressing against it.
“Someone just came by,” the main universe Batman said confidently. “One was standing in front of the counter, and the other was standing in front of the door. It seems our Dark Wizard has accomplices.”
“Never mind that for now,” said Batman Arkham. “Mirrors aren’t very effective as detectors of magical energy. I think we should consider other mediums. I think a crystal ball would be good. What do you guys think?”
“It’s not a question of what’s appropriate now, it’s a question of what we can get our hands on,” the main universe Batman said. “I remember Dr. Schiller had a crystal ball in his display case.”
"Aren't you afraid of shaving him bald?"
“We can’t steal it this time, because it’s his private collection. Maybe we can borrow it from him.”
“He told me today that he would give a reward to whoever finds the mirror. I think we can return the mirror and ask him for a crystal ball.”
“Good idea,” said the main universe Batman. “Let’s do it.”
It was another early morning. Schiller, who had stayed up too late memorizing his lines last night, was still fast asleep. When he was awakened by a knock on the door, he glanced out the window and saw that it was just getting light.
He went downstairs to open the door, and standing outside were Arkham Batman and two mirrors. Arkham Batman shrugged and said, "I found your mirror, Doctor. Near the colonnade in the east tower."
Schiller paused for a moment to realize—the Mercury Academy dormitories were just across the east tower's covered walkway. "It really is those guys."
He nodded and said, "Thank you very much. I'll have someone set it up later. What kind of payment do you want?"
"I learned a lot from the rune class and I'd like to make my own energy storage accessory. I think the crystal ball in your collection is quite nice. Could I have it?"
Schiller glanced back at the display case. Actually, it didn't contain much of his own collection; it was mostly decorative items that had been crammed in during the renovation. Since Schiller hadn't acquired them himself, he couldn't really say whether he liked them or not; they just looked nice on display, so he left them there.
He walked over, picked up the crystal ball, and examined it. It was a very ordinary purple crystal ball, with no magical properties whatsoever; it seemed purely decorative. Crystals were plentiful in magic academies, and although this one had relatively high clarity, there were certainly better ones. Schiller held it in his hand for a moment, then tossed it to Batman Arkham.
"Thank you, Doctor. If you want to know who took your mirror, perhaps you can ask the people at Mercury Academy."
After he left, Schiller sat at his desk, feeling somewhat drowsy. After a while, he turned on his phone and found a lively discussion in the group chat. The topic of discussion was: the traces they had left in the forest had somehow been destroyed.
Upon seeing the message, Schiller immediately sat up straight. The reason was simple: he was the one who created those marks; if they were gone, wouldn't he have to do it all over again?
It's been very hot these past few days, and the forest is even hotter and more humid. Schiller didn't want to go there again, so he quickly asked in the group chat what was going on.
The production team members were all talking at once, but no one knew what had happened. Because they were still in the props setup phase, the cameras hadn't been brought in yet, so they hadn't captured who did it. Strange checked and found no trace of magical energy, indicating that the perpetrator used purely physical methods. But the vast Enchanted Forest left no other traces. It was obvious without investigation that it must have been Batman; only Batman possessed this level of skill.
The problem was that there were too many Batmen in the school, and it was impossible to identify which one it was. So Strange had to urgently gather all the students in the auditorium for a morning assembly. Schiller arrived a little late; Strange's speech was already halfway through.
"...I must emphasize again, you are not allowed to leave the castle grounds, and you are absolutely forbidden from going into the Enchanted Forest! This is a violation of school rules!" Strange practically roared. "It's extremely dangerous there, the environment is complex, and there are many magical plants that you can't handle. Rushing in will only cost you your lives!"
Strange didn't believe he was exaggerating. While they didn't have any particularly dangerous plants, they had indeed transplanted some poisonous plants, especially poisonous mushrooms, for the sake of the forest's aesthetics. It wasn't necessarily that you had to eat them to be poisoned; contact with the spores could be enough. If Batman were actually poisoned, he wouldn't be able to explain himself.
“The Enchanted Forest is currently under construction,” Strange explained patiently, trying to calm himself. “It’s a very important project. If it delays progress, there will be serious consequences. No student is allowed to enter. If I find anyone violating this rule, I will expel them immediately!”
Schiller could clearly sense Strange's helplessness. He knew it wasn't that Strange didn't want to talk about making the movie, but they had all signed a non-disclosure agreement. Right now, no one outside knew that the sequel was already in pre-production, and if Strange directly revealed the film's production, he would have to pay compensation.
The students could have easily guessed it. After all, they were incredibly enthusiastic about the movie, and everyone wanted to appear in the new film. But instead of explaining the basics of using the wand, Wanda started teaching a flying lesson. The flying lesson captured everyone's attention. After all, who wouldn't want to fly freely in the sky?
So Strange's warning was like talking to a brick wall; nobody took it to heart. Almost everyone was discussing flight lessons, who could fly and who couldn't, and what made flying look cool.
In the Marvel universe, mages don't fly on broomsticks. They don't need external assistance; they can lift themselves using only magical energy. However, flying consumes a lot of magical energy, even more than opening a portal, so mages don't fly often.
Wanda is one of the most experienced in this area. Her Crimson Power has virtually no limit, and she can fly faster than the mages, so she can fly to any emergency, making her the main lecturer for this course.
"Alright, now pick up your wands. As I taught you before, let the magic flow through your bodies and feel it enveloping you. Combine that with what we taught you in meditation class, gently imagine that a breeze is lifting you up..."
Now everyone was standing on the lawn in the castle's back garden. Wanda was explaining the secrets of flying to them. Everyone was excited and eager to be the first to take flight.
But in reality, this is very difficult. Because the control of magical power is subjective, most people have neither flown nor dare to imagine that they can fly, and cannot grasp that feeling of lightness from within.
This time, Neptune Academy and Mercury Academy were having classes together again. Bruce was the best student among all the students because he had adapted well to life with wings, and his suit of armor also provided him with the ability to fly.
Wanda was still lecturing when Bruce had already circled her three times. Finally, Wanda lost her patience and unleashed a crimson burst of energy that knocked him down.
"Bruce! Go back to your place! Or I'll pluck all the feathers off your wings, and even Lucifer won't be able to save you!"
Bruce shrugged and walked back.
Batman from Arkham was somewhat surprised that someone could actually handle Bruce, which made him look at Scarlet Witch with new respect.
They knew, of course, that the red-haired woman in front of them was quite capable, otherwise she wouldn't be a professor at the magic academy, but they had no idea just how strong she was.
Wanda has never been fond of fighting. Even with a spot in the Battle Realm, she rarely goes. Her counterparts in other universes are similar, working sporadically, and their Battle Realm bases are still completely empty. Naturally, Batman has no chance of being assigned to one of them.
The main universe's Batman merely glanced at Wanda without saying anything more. He had absolutely no interest in flying, and instead, taking advantage of the others practicing their takeoff maneuvers, he moved closer to Owl.
"You went to the Enchanted Forest." This wasn't a question; the tone was quite certain. Night Owl showed no surprise, glancing at him without replying.
What did you find there?
“I did find something,” Night Owl chuckled. “But I’m more curious about what you guys do all day in the library.”
“Let’s exchange some information,” said the main universe Batman. “Tell me what you saw and heard in the Enchanted Forest, and I’ll tell you what we found in the library.”
Night Owl seemed to be about to refuse, but the main universe Batman said, "This school is too big. If we split up to explore and refuse to exchange information, we probably won't figure things out even in six months. Do you want to waste that much time here?"
Night Owl seemed somewhat swayed by his words. He cleared his throat, glanced around, and said, "Someone's been active in the Enchanted Forest. I don't mean just recently, but long-term. He seems to be searching for materials, perhaps planning something."
The main universe's Batman knows he's hiding something, but he doesn't care. He says, "What a coincidence, I've also discovered someone conducting clandestine activities within the castle, and it's been going on for a long time. Who do you think it could be?"
